Grand disappointment

two weeks ago my warning lights came on and codes said the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, gears were fucked so i got a new transmission rebuild at a shop. I go pick up my car today and drive it home. its driving excellent and really smooth. Then I decide to go drive it to the mall and its about a 5 mile distance when as soon as i pull it into the parking lot the rpms shoot up like a mutherf*cker. I think to myself "the f*ck?" and i look to see if it is leaking. yes. I give it a while to cool down and decide to make my way back home. I put it in drive and bam! it slammed pretty hard. this sint going well. I drive off and pretty much eery gear it slips. Every gear. I get half a mile and luckily my friend's framing shop is right there so i pull in to leave it. my friend comes to pick me up and we look under the car and it is leaking red Honda transmission fluid. drip drip drip. tomorrow during thanksgiving since traffic will be light, i'll take it back to the shop and drop it off with a note. Happy birthday to me.

Driver's side axle might've popped out.

Never drive when extremely low on ATF.

have the shop tow it at their expense--its normally part of warranty
and will save wear on many parts

do your part to show reasonableness--its leaking atf--stop driving and tow!
might be a major danger to drive

It's likely something minor at this point. Just get it towed to the shop so you don't do serious damage.

well i didnt get to leave a note but i left them a message, nothing mean just told them what happened. My car wasn't as far from the shop as I thought and I moved it on Thanksgiving, yes I drove, not the best idea but they said if anything goes wrong with it then they will fix it.

True, they should be the ones to fix it. However, I wouldn't wanna make it worse. You don't want something like a loose drain plug to turn into another rebuild. It's a lot easier to "cut corners" when doing warranty work since you're not getting paid for it (at independent shops).

its at the shop now so thats good
Our concern is about additional internal damage from low fluid,,when it may have been a simple external seal on the cv popped out

they will do `the minimum` to get the car going again,,,if you know about warranty you understand~
not pulling trans out and apart if not required--again

well, that's good that you got your car safely back to the shop. hopefully this time they will do the job right... my 2nd tranny overheated after 1year and 1day of having it rebuilt done.

no, they havent called to tell me what they did wrong.
I just hope they actually take the bull by the horns and fix it, but thats asking a lot. if they dont get it fixed this time i may end up getting rid of it.

many shops with no or little TL experience will take 2-3 attempts to fix a TL trans--thats life---only have to read threads on azine for this info

They have to look and see if its external prob, or pull the trans and tear it down again--thats 10 hours labor there!
then fix part that failed or labor issue and rebuild- reinstall- test drive

dont expect them to admit any wrong-doing--it was a problem thats now fixed,,
good day Sir,
I said Good day!

i finally got a call from them today and they admitted to not correctly putting in one of the plugs for a sensor which caused the leaks but said they couldnt find anything else wrong with it. so its fixed now, yet i may still be a bit skeptical, but we'll see what happens

a loose screwed in part--that'll cause a leak !! hopefully the short drive didnt damage anything from low fluid

I suggest you drive it gentle, like a new car-normal light to mid throttle, no redline rpm, no racing first 500 miles etc

then 500-1000 miles.. drive aggressive throttle, use SS mode up and downshift--put some wear on the trans
If its going to fail that should bring it out

when i was reading through that i had like a very careful, cautious tone in my head and then i get to
"then 500-1000 miles...etc" it goes to like badass 180 degree lol

it was funny in my head

i'll baby it for sure at the beginning then definitely see how she is after the recovery mileage.

I think the damage is done; depends on 1) how low the fluid level got and 2) how far he drove it...before issues will actually surface.

How much did you pay for a rebuild? My second tranny in three years is on its way out unfortunately and I paid about 3000 for my first tranny. Im starting to wonder if this car is worth it, unfortunately i dont have an option.

I think it will be fine. Since the fluid had been filled before there should still be lubrication of internal parts and you only drove it a little bit that way.

Why do these cars have crappy TRANSMISSIONS serious, it seems everyone include folks that drive MDX have nothing but Transmission Problems an u would think ACURA would do something about this issue

- my praying when my TL hits the road at the end of this month i have no problems

1900 for the rebuild. but the labor was the majority, around 1200 or so.
I mean sh*t, next time something like that happens I'll just buy the parts and have the local NASCAR mechanics school do the work for free. and yes, those guys know what they are doing.
I dont have an option either, although i'm toying with the idea of trading it in around the end of the warranty period...
