Post Got speed ticket. Need advice.

Just got speed ticket to doing 80 in 65 zone. I din't have citations for >2 yeras, so I hope to go to the traffic school. However, there is a problem. My driver licence had old address on it. I have that peice of paper with new address but it was in other section of my wallet and I completely forgot about it. So, I just found that I have old address on citation. What should I do? I moved exactly 1 year ago and my mail forward doesn't work anymore. Tomorrow I'll go to the Post Office to ask it they could extent mail forward for extra charge; don't know if it's possible. I have court name written on the citation. Will it work if I call them to tell about address change? Please, advice!

My advice: I would call the court and explain the situation and seek their opinion on how to resolve this.

My 2 cents: Slow down!

Good luck!

I don't know about cali, but in houston, you cannot get your ticket dismissed for a moving violation. Speeding is considered a moving violation. You can get a non moving violation ticket dismissed by going to driving school once a year here in houston. By doing this, I haven't had 1 ticket on record

First of all call the police station that issued the ticket. Someone there should either fix the problem or give you the information on where to call to get the problem fixed. That way you will not run into problems with missing court dates. And down here there are ticket clinics. Lawyers who just do traffic violations. Not only could he probably resolve the address thing for you but could also work your ticket. I got a speeding ticket, and for $75 got the ticket dismissed no points, no driving school, and clean record. Definatly worth looking into. My ticket alone was $175. Check it out.

Thanks for help! I know the court house name so I can call them directly (I afraid it will not be easy to find and correct my citation papers in police dept. before they reach the court). I just was thinking to wait 2-3 weeks first (my citation has court date 3/15/01 anyway). I hope that my mail forwarding still working (gonna test it now), if so then the court letter should be just forwarded to me. Oh boy, ticket for 80Mh on absolutely empty (2am) I-5 between SD and LA ..... my bad luck

In NJ if you go to the court prosecutor will amend the charges to something of = value(relatively speaking) and you can get the points taken out.

Maybe you can just go to the court by calling them so you don't have to worry about address change.

I actually don't know if there are "points on the record" in CA???

All my experience is based on the ticket which my wife got ~2 years ago in very similar situation (82 in 65 zone). She got letter from court and paid the fee (~$160) by mail. The court letter already included options to go to the traffic school, so she attended and has clear record now. I think in CA we can attend traffic school at most once every 18 months ....
