You need to read up on LASER, basically. Basically your detector is in your windshield, and they point the laser at your headlights or license plate. The laser is of course not as wide band as radar so your detector may not pick it up, and of course if they got your back end it won't even stand a chance!

Sucks don't it?
I don't think any radar detectors can pick up "lazers".
They do however register "lasers".
Maybe your Escort is trying to tell you to retire it and get a V1.
The BIG guy might have popped you instantly and caught your Escort snoozing.

maybe you meant "sucks, doesn' it" instead of "sucks, don't it?"
have you ever heard of typos?

8500 X50 doesn't equal free license to speed, its just there as an aid. If you want full protection get a laser shifter. The good/expensive ones offer to pay for any ticket you get provided you weren't paced. But I didn't say that.

umm, get pulled over with a jammer, say good bye to your license, maybe even your car. it is 100% illegal.
I hear Escort ZR3 Jammer is quite good. but this is not my cup of tea, my V1 does fine.

hmm, interesting, please elaborate some more, i would love to know more about those defusers.

Is the Laser DefuserPlus™ legal?
The Laser DefuserPlus™ is designed to boost a signal to 904 nanometers, the frequency used by police laser guns. Because it does not interfere with radio waves or any devices regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and no laser diodes are used, the DefuserPlus™ is completely safe and legal to use.
IM EXCITED, i want it, lol.

there are lots of different brands out there, some work, some are shit... if you dont do at least 6 hours research before you buy, you might buy the wrong one...
They are not perfect either... If the cop has a perfect shot with a perfect steady hand with perfect weather under perfect light, your fucked either way. Defusers work on a "real world" scenario, betting the cop will take a moment to aim or that the ligh outside will distort the signal just enough for the defuser to catch it and start "defusing" the beam.
Ive been saved over a dozen times by it, and i got screwed once.

but like GaleForce 8500 X50 doesn't equal free license to speed, its just there as an aid. If you want full protection get a laser shifter. The good/expensive ones offer to pay for any ticket you get provided you weren't paced.
nothing is for sure.
another tool to help aid in not getting nabbed by laser, get rid of your front license plate (most places its illegal, but keep it in your trunk and just tell the cop that someone backed into it and broke the mounting and you have to get a new one) 99% of the time the plate is what they need to aim at.. another thing that helps with both (it helps to shorten distance is a black bra, it doesnt allow the signal to reflect as well)
another thing the lower your radar detector is the better it can detect laser, and the higher up it can detect radar better. personally i keep mine nice and close to the dash. it has more than enough range there and better at laser.

I've heard reports that having radar detectors side by side can cause false reports. I think that was with regard to radar, I'm not sure about laser. It's better if you have them far apart say in another car.

i dont have any idea what a speed limit is, i know that for sure! but even with a radar detector i put most of my faith in myself seeing the cop first, if you can see him before he gets a chance to get his radar/laser on you, you win. the radar is only there as a little backup

Here is the real scoop on LIDAR (commonly refered to as LASER). Police use of LIDAR (LASER) has increased as the cost for the LIDAR units have decreased and the acuracy has increased. Older LIDAR units were slow to return a speed and did not work well against non-metal cars (such as a Saturn or Corvette). However, the newer models (in the past 3-5 years) are much much better than their older counterparts. The biggest difference in LIDAR compaired to RADAR is that RADAR typically sends out a "signal" or beam when ever the unit is turned on. However, there are small exceptions to this which i will not go into.
When a officer is driving down the street with a RADAR unit on, your detector goes off before you see the cop because the RADAR unit is always sending out a signal. A RADAR unit can be hand held or mounted in a car. Becareful because the newer models have same direction RADAR, that means if you are catching up to the cop in front of you he can get your speed on RADAR even though you are driving behind him.
LIDAR only emits a small radar beam when the officer pulls the trigger on the hand held unit. Darkshear is correct when he states the laser beam is only about 4'x4' at 1,000 feet. This is about as large as the laser beams gets, even at the maximum ranging distance (which can be up to 4,000 to 5,000 feet). That is why LIDAR only targets one car at a time and is very acurate. This is also why the officer can get you on LIDER before your radar/laser dectector even goes off. By the time you hear the warning on your detector it is too late. The down side to LIDAR is it is only hand held and the officer must be stopped to use it. LIDAR does not have a "moving mode" ability.
Sorry about being so long, but i hope this helps a little.

I have the bel 904 laser jammer or whatever you want to call it. Yes it's illegal. but guess who regulates it Federally? FDA! ya Food and Drug administration=no biggy.
I'm selling the Bell 904 for 1/2 of new cost here's the link to the Black Market.

oh ya it's been tested by a couple independant critics and it works on all Lidar.

Laser is not illegall in all states. Radar jamming is illegal and is regulated by the FCC. Laser bandwidth is regulated by the FDA. Jamming laser is illegal in some states but not all. In California it is illegal. Check your state laws on laser jamming.

basically it was taken place on the freeway. I was going thru a curve and by the time I saw him it was too late. My Escort didn't do anything and right after I passed him he pulled out from the place he was kinda hiding and followed me a bit and the lights were on. He said I was going 75 at a 60 but I thought I was only going 70. After he came back from his car he said he reduced my speed to 70 so my fee would be lower. I don't know what made he used, and all it says on the ticket was he used laser at 389.1 ft...

My Escort X50 has picked up Laser a few times. Really scary actually, just suddenly goes TEEEEEELLEEEELEELEEELEE. Anyway, you say you were rounding a curve. If the part of the freeway he got you on was a long straight, its possible he used LIDAR, but if it was on the actual curve he got you on, I'd be skeptical. LIDAR can only be used correctly if its held completely still and so is usually only used on straightaways. My X50 isn't too high up, so I'd think urs should've picked it up.

It’s a little bit off the topic, but... After being nailed one more time doing 80 on Vermont’s “91” with no any other car as far as I could see in front of me or behind, I finally decided to buy an Escort8500 (I've read all the debates Escort vs. V1). But when I started looking for the place where can I put it - I got puzzled. The mirror is in the way! I am 6 feet tall and if I put it under the mirror it would be right in the middle of the windshield. If I put it on the right side - it would be too far, if on the left - it would be right in my face! Could, please, somebody who already figured all that out, post a picture? Greatly appreciate!

The newer laser guns are extremely precise. The number one rule of speeding is never speed alone. Let someone else take the hit for you. If I am alone on the open road, 8mph over tops. But, if someone passes me going maybe 10mph faster or so, and if I am on a long road trip, I'll tap the cruise up to match his once he is about a quarter mile ahead. Let him snap the bear trap while you come up and drive around the wounded animal as he's pulled over

I've heard wild stories about people getting out of tickets even with the police officer present so lawyers are there for a reason.
