got pulled over with Escort 8500!!!

i've heard my escort's 8500 laser warning go off about 7 times and I never saw a cop. It's pretty scary when it goes off and you read laser on the detector and you know you are being watched, but don't know where he is at. The one time that I did get pulled over and got a ticket, my detector did not go off and the cop wrote down that he used a laser. bad luck maybe??? I paid $37 for a lawyer and had to pay the ticket, but was given 90 days probation so it would not go on my record.

^^ If you dont wanna get a ticket then dont drive fast...wow its so easy.
If you wanna run and not get tickets then a radar/laser detector wont cut it...people either dont understand this or just dont think about it. You'll need a jammer/scrambler device.
there are some "stealth" products out there. Beltronics has a kikass one, my dad's Mercedes C32 AMG has an amazing one...Phazer II kiks ass because of the price, its always on BUT it wont alert you IF there's something out there, it just jams it. I myself have RMR-C430 and its an amazing combo of detection and scrambling, it may not have long distance detecting but it sure as hell gets the job done.
research this out OR you can just have you 8500 and buy a PHAZER and this combo will make you a happy racer.
*edit: just watch your back...even though there's no cops who shoot from behind they know any radar will pick him up as you go by

But when I started looking for the place where can I put it - I got puzzled. The mirror is in the way! I am 6 feet tall and if I put it under the mirror it would be right in the middle of the windshield. If I put it on the right side - it would be too far, if on the left - it would be right in my face! Could, please, somebody who already figured all that out, post a picture? Greatly appreciate!

im 10 feet tall , mine is right below the tint strip, this way its not visible from the outside and i dont have to take it out everytime i leave the car, and passenger's heads dont block the waves.

Actually I prefer it up higher and not low on the windshield above the dash (clear of the windshield whipers). I find it sucks to lean forward to press the mute on the V1 in the lower position. If the airbag were to go off while you are leaned forward you'd be hosed. In any case, I need to get a concealed display and hardwire my V1 in any case. It's nice for it to be high where it's not visible from the outside.

yeah, i hardwired it and i have consealled display, makes it very nice and comfortable. i luv V1.

ok, this is a little bit off topic, but its about my V1 being hard-wired. Before my consealled display, the radar was pretty bright, the RED was bright, now since I added the concealled display, the consealled display is either bright or dim, bright or dim. and it is driving me NUTS. I have hardwired to the ACC (II), I think the voltage changes? which is weird. I guess i'll have to find a different place now.... any suggestions?

Thanks to everybody for responses! I didn't mention that I want it hardwired (don't like all those dangling wires!) and, as far as I know, the best way is to use a rear view mirror connections. So "mount it low" wouldn't work - detector must be close to the mirror. Has anybody hardwired it that way and where do you place it?

most who hardwire it, run a wire from the driver side fuse panel, up the piller and across the headliner. I have mine mounted on the driverside of the rearview mirror. It is a little bit in my line of sight, but I'm use to it now.

I got popped in Georgia last year over the same issue. The cop said he got me from atop an overpass bu the detector never went off (same Escort)...
Anyway, I ended up driving through there 5 times in the next week and it went off every time within about a 1/2 mile of the overpass as they were running speed traps. The second time another car went around me but the same cop pulled me over again! I gave him a rash of sh!+ the first time and told him there was no way he got me with the detector as I woulda slowed down or owned up to the ticket and the second time, after he realized it was me again, and another cop showed up, he let me go and told me he would not show up in court.
I went back and had the ticket dismissed and he did not show up indeed. Was near Tifton, Georgia...

Did you ask the officer for a printout? Because I have an 8500 which I specifically purchased over the V1 mind you, and mine always says LASER and goes crazy if a cop is using a laser, even if he is several hundred yards away.

some people dont know how laser really works. Your detector V1 or Escort will only register laser and aid you only if the cop is using laser on another car that is front of you, this is the only way it can be deteced before you get lasered yerself, and unless you have a laser deffuser/jammer the cop will mark you.
V1 also goes crazy when laser is detected either in front or rear or side of a car.

Yup, its what i said that people dont understand...
If you wanna speed and not get caught you'll need a jammer or a scrambler. Search and you'll find many detectors/scramblers out there for under $300...ebay under $130s shipped.
I got a Rocky Mountain Radar C-430 and its an amazing detector/scrambler of both radar and laser...0 tickets since i got it and i'm always 15-20 over
OR you can get one of those jammers you mount on your licence plates/hardwired systems that make you literally invisible...unless you're in the "pop zone" (0-150~200ft you WILL get marked)

i've got a V1, and i gotta say, that with laser, you're pretty much fucked.....when i'm on the Garden State Parkway, and i'm in the fast lane for example doin like 80......laser warning goes off, i look to my left, and the cop is there.....i gotta say though, that the warning i got was the laser bouncing off someone else. im never the only car getting hit.....cop hits 3 or 4 cars ahead, i get the warning.....BUT....that also means that if i was the only car, i'd be fucked....laser warnings obviously only work when actually getting hit.....so be careful.

I got busted the same way, 8500 went off when he got me. Drove back and forth to work for one year the same speed, then one day they get laser and bust me. Oh well. The 8500 will pick it up, but they point and shoot with little scatter so you are pretty much screwed. Feel sorry for ya, I know what it's like.

light energy need a somewhat flat, reflective surface to bounce back to its source ie; headlights or licence plate, And dark color absorb alot of that energy.
I didnt just make it up, i researched a bit before buying my "lasershifter" or active laser defence (Bel 904)

I've got a PNI 7600 Wireless detector and I put near the bottom of my windshield on my left. It is hidden by my inspection sticker and a 9/11 rememberance sticker too. Will this effect range or the sensitivy at all?
#71
the sticker blocks the waves, so your radar is almost blind, and with wireless make sure you change your batteries as often as possible, the radar is only as good as the power to it.
