Post Got a new car.

Remember that I couldn't make up my mind what kind of car my wife should get? Well, today, we bought a new Silver MDX premium. Paid a little over MSRP, but I think it was worth it. Motortrend named it SUV of the year and Car and Driver just rated it over the BMW X5 and Lexus RX300. Now I need to see what I can do to it....I am pretty sure the Comptech headers would fit

Yeah! Thinking about it too! Can't decide if it's worth it and what to get rid of... You have to give us the details as to the features, handling, etc.

Hey ACURATL,
I bet your your wife is gonna say "I thought the MDX came with a wood steering wheel, hey when did you get one for your TL?" LOL

CONGRATZ!!!!!
I heard that it doesn't come with HID's, is that true and why is that?

Since no one else is awake, I'll take this question!

Unfortunately the MDX does not come with HID's. Basically you can not have HID's on an SUV without an autoleveling system, they already sit up high, and then an SUV also tends to be a little bouncy, all these add up to blinding light for drivers in the other lane. Why didn't Acura make an autoleveling system? Because no other car they make needs one and it would not be worth the research costs right now. The MDX is based off the Odysey, but Acura still had to spend some big $$$ on the engine, and especially the four wheel drive system for the MDX. If they had spent the $$$ on the R&D for HID's, then it probably would have delayed the MDX's launch further.

By them self, the halogens are sufficient I think, plus the MDX has auxiliary driving lights.

Every review I have read for the MDX has been a rave review. C&D's complaints centered around the fact that the MDX did not have a low speed transfer case, because it was in a comparo with the likes of a Land Rover Discovery and Montero. Also they said the MDX felt somewhat delicate offroad, or simply that they felt a little hesitant to push it too hard offroad. That said, it is 20 times more capable on offroad duties than an RX300. It also held it's own against the X5, even in offroad.

Plus for that price, how can you turn it down?! Plus the MDX looks quite nice, the typical understated Acura style, coupled with the looks of those big wheels, that somewhat aggressive front end.....

You've definately made a fine choice!

2K-TL if you want car like handleing, get a RX300, it handles like a camry. Then again, could you look at that thing every morning? Hey, want to puke? Look at the gear shift on the RX300, I think they pulled that out of a 1980's Camry!

AcuraTL: Have you bought a steering wheel puller yet? You need to acquision that wood wheel ;

Congrats AcuraTL, you've obviously made a great choice on the MDX. Wish I had the money to get one too. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The MDX drives almost like a non-modified TL, except a little higher off the groud. The options I got are running boards, tailgate deflector, moonroof visor, cargo net and wheel locks.

It is true that the MDX does not come with HID lights. To tell you the truth, it doesn't need it and the fog lights are pretty bright too. I am going to change the low beams to Razo superwhite headlights and the fog lights to amber, ala Lexus.

It is a really cool car, I mean SUV. Perfect timing because skiing season just started

I am considering the fender flares. I'll try to convince my wife to get them or just buy them for her for Christmas.

The fender flares are nice, but they would be a 100 times better if they came body colored instead of gray. Maybe Acura will be like Mercedes and change them up in a year or two.

Congrats on the MDX!! I was on the waiting list for a Mahogany one with the touring package (6 disc changer, memory seats, etc.) but I bought a Chevy Venture Warner Brothers Mini Van (at 0% financing for 5 years). Yup, I'll admit it. I'm 25 and have a freakin' minivan! And it's a Chevy no less, which I despise (I hate Fords more though). Naturally I got my deposit back on the MDX, which would have come in at the end of November/beginning of December. Oh well, at least my daughter can watch videos while we're on longer trips and it's all factory and I can play PS2/DVDs!

Nevertheless, congrats again on the fine choice of automobiles!!

Watch out,

Before you know it, you are going to be driving the SUV, and the wife is going to be driving your car.

Well, I have my PS2 already. When I have time, I'll install a couple of monitors in the headrests.

Man, am I the only one with common sense? The MDX is a horrible truck, let a lone ugly! Just kidding guys!

If I had $60K to fork out on an SUV, I'd definitely get the X5 4.4, the 3.0 wasn't worth the money nor was the RX300 (minivan). I confidently say this cuz my sister bought a RX300 and wishes she waited on the MDX. I've heard nothing but great things about the truck, so I'm sure you'll love it. I too tried to convince my woman on the MDX and she insisted on the new (to be released in Oct. 01) MB E430.

Congrats! and hope you, I mean your wife likes it!

Now I need to find ways to make "her" MDX stand out from the others. My first task will be trying to get some nice headlights bulbs to make it al least look like the HID lights. Also, since it has fog lights i'll change them to amber to get that Lexus HID low beam and amber fog light look.

The interior is ebony. It is the exact same thing as my TL, silver exterior and ebony interior.

I need to find out which headlamp bulbs is the best out there.

Of course I like to drive my TL instead Power wise, I don't know. I am still trying to "break in" the MDX so I'll let you know once it is broken in.

LOL! The RX300 does look like crap. My neighbor has one and it makes me laugh everytime I see it. Kinda reminds me of a wannabe SUV (i.e., raised station wagon). Ideally, I would like to sell my Nissan Crewcab and get the MDX. That way we would have a 2K-TL as well as an MDX! What a thought!

Im thinking about putting a HID conversion kit on our MDX when it comes.

Any suggestions/comments?

Ive seen them for around $800, not a bad deal.

The MDX is nice, but there's something about a truck that begs for abuse....What about the new Supercharged Frontier? How about the Frontier Desert Runner 4x4? I like that truck, plus the 'classic' Nissan VG engine...it's old, but it's still torquey!
