Going in for Tranny surgery! Please help

Hey guys, first of all i wanted to say i didnt search for my question, cuz im at work and my company records every hit i get on the internet so i dont really have the opportunity to go through all the threads, i was 12th on interent usage out of 1300 people last pay period, so im scared to do much surfing, so im sorry for that. Secondly, my check engine light came on a couple days ago. I got it checked out at autozone, the codes were p1768 and p1457, from what i understand 1457 may just be a loose gas cap, but 1768 is a problem with the tranny, SURPRISE SURPRISE..haha. Anyway lately the car has been shifting a little wierd and there has been a wierd smell present. Im paranoid as all hell and worried the tranny is gonna fail any day. I called acura and gave them my vin number, they said that there are a couple recalls on my car that havent been done. One being a SEAT BELT recall, im glad i learned about that one. Also they said there is an extended 92 month/100,000 mile warranty on parts of the tranny. I got very minimal information but im glad to know that there is at least something out there and im not going in completely helpless. I schedule a drop off tonight and they should be checking my car tomorrow. I drive a 2000 tl-p, it has 48500 miles. Is there anything i should know about before going in? Any owners that have gone through this process? Thank you guys! Oh and i took of the intake resonator two weeks ago, are they gonna bitch, should i put it back on? Again sorry i didnt search, hope u guys understand

Its actually 109k miles OR 7 years from first date car in service
register your car www.acura.com owership experience, by VIN make a free account and learn about the recalls
or stay off the net and call 1-800-382-2238 x5 and register by vin and ask them

Then call the local dealer and tell them trans shifts funny
Get it in right away- sign the diagnosis fee work order- dont sweat it- and then they call and tell you when the replacement trans will be installed at no charge

age 20- forget about a free loaner car- insurance rules in most states

Everything he said makes perfect sense. Had my trans replaced last week and followed all those steps...01tl4l is the man(or woman)! Follow his advice and you'll be fine. They'll replace the trans and let you know about anything else they notice. Painless process, except no car for you. GOOD LUCK!

Just be careful saying you are getting tranny surgery or they may remove more than you expected! Entirely different procedure!!!!

01tl may be an escaped mental patient with a competition race license-
and has always been a man!

Loaner

I'm pretty young, and they've never even asked to see my ID at the dealer when they give me a loaner. But maybe it's just Utah laws. I just fill out the paper, and they hand me the key.

Good luck with the fix and the loaner. All areas and dealerships are different so there's no telling what will actually happen.

so ive got a little update. Thankfully the extended warranty on the transmissions (7 years and 9 months from the purchase date) still applies to my car, i have two months left. The assistant service manager told me that they are gonna replace the old tranny with a refurbished acura transmission because he said there are no more new ones. But the thing that worries me is that the only warranty on the new transmission is whatever is left in the extended warranty. So if this new tranny blows in 3 months......im in a pile of shit! Is this right? I was hoping there would be a 1 or 2 year warranty on this new tranny they put in. Also he told me that the seat belt recall problem and odps (or is it opds, sorry) cant be fixed unless the srs light is constantly on, but thankfully i have a lot of time until those recalls expire so im guessin the light will come on at some point. To sum up, im absolutely ecstatic that im gettin a new transmission , pissed off about the warranty , and without a car til wednesday or thursday because they have to order the transmission and all the loaner cars are booked up.

The service writer is full of it!

Acura rebuilds the old returned transmisions and then sends them out for install in the next car!
The replacement-rebuilt trans unit has its very own 12 month 10k mile warranty

Anyone who says different is trying to commit FRAUD and the Service MANAGER and Acura need to know about it

No warranty past original- ptttttttt
the truth is if - if your replacement warranty is shorter than the 7/109 remaining- you are still covered by that- even if you go thru 4 trans during the 109k still covered~

thanks 01tl4tl! All this info is very very helpful. So they arent installing it probably till tuesday when they get the unit in. Should i talk to them now, or wait til after they finish? Should i say that there should be a 1 year/10k warranty on the tranny, or should i tell him that he needs to check the warranty again because he is wrong, or should i just skip him all together and talk to his boss? He doesnt seem to be to knowledgeble at his job, so its kinda annoying. Thanks again for the help

You cant expect the service writer to know about every thing they sell
I had to ask the Manager about the warranty to get the 12/10 info-
not plainly printed on receipt anywhere I could find.

Plus you still get overall trans coverage with the 7/109

fsttyms1 went thru 3 warranty trans and other members have similar experience
The newest replacements are doing very well in compare!
