Going To The Track-intercooled Tls

I do plan to go tomorrow to the track. I hope to have new and very improved track times and #s. Along with that I will be reporting on tranny results(this tranny has not had any track time as off yet). I don't have the new harness and as a result I'll be using 100 octane unleaded race fuel. I'll try and do a base run and then subsequent runs I will be running with ice in the reservoir to see how much it improves the times. That's all for now, I'm somewhat nervous but I'm hoping for no major issues. If there is any one that can make it out tomorrow and take pictures or video they are more than welcome. The track opens at 10PM until 2AM. It will be at "SPEEDWORLD" in Orlando their # is 407-568-5522. Hope to see you all there.

^^^NOT ANY TIME SOON^^^^

results are very disappointing to say the least. Here are the shameful times:

1st Run - Got a 15.96 @ 81.01 HOW AWFUL. The check engine light flashed and VSA light came on and it looked like Christmas on my dash. When I came back through the staging lanes I noticed I only had half of my Supercharger belt, I must off lost most of it on the track. DOUBLE WOE!!!
Thank God the guys from Speed Distributors(formerly Velocity Resources) where there and they had my new GY Gatorback belt(which I ordered in anticipation of the original not making it). BTW: Dean with his black CL-S was there but didn't run, can't say that I blame him as there must off been 250+ cars and motorcycles.
After the belt was installed I got back in the lanes again hoping that would do it.

2nd Run - Went from running in D5 to gate shifting to see if that would also improve things: 15.80 @ 89.27 HOW AWFUL AGAIN. Check engine, VSA, etc...Flashing once more. I did no more attempts as this was hopeless. The car must off been pulling timing to save its life as the car didn't seem to pull past 4000-4500 RPMs. I know that I wasn't getting enough fuel since I don't have a working harness for the E-manage so I was using the race fuel but that didn't seem to make enough difference and that stuff is expensive!!!

So all this in light that the car is running 3-4 more pounds of boost, intercooled, race fuel, brand new wider rubber up front and I went from 13.68@ 102.5 on 93 octane to this. I'm hoping that this is nothing more then an e-manage issue.

If I get the harness in time I'll be back to the track on Wednesday night.

Sorry guys for the poor report.

I'm about an hour from UCF. Best time to catch me is when I'm at the track as it is only 10-15 from the campus.

Ouch - sorry to hear that, man. What do you plan on doing now? I hope there's no permanent damage to your engine.

I'm hoping that the harness to the E-manage will straighten things out. The car, believe it or not actually drove OK on the way home. It's as if the car performs better at part throttle then it does at full, which just may be the case where it doesn't have to pull timing. I'll post results after the harness install.

BTW: hope to see you again at the track.

You should really get rid of the E-Manage and get the APEXi VTEC controller. A kid on my campus has one on his S2000.. I've yet to ask him about the gains, but his car sounds pretty quick.

For this aplication(SC and Turbo CLs) the E-manage has proven to be very effective. The Apexi controler seems to be somewhat limited in this case - ignition timing, expanding pulse with on injectors, adding extra injectors, etc..

Contact Scalbert for some technical help. I'm sure he'll be able to figure out what went wrong with your setup. Good luck to you!

I talked with him this morning and he is sending me the harness for the E-manage. Hopefully that will do the job. I'll post new results as I can.

I do have a dyno but it is not current. The last dyno was 265hp 232tq and that was pre UR pulleys, B-pipe and I/C. Once the car is tuned and I have the harness I'll have it done again.
Where guessing maybe in the 320-335 range at the wheels.

Sweet - it's interesting to not that all of that work got the WHP numbers back to what they were supposed to be at the crank.

It really illustrates how much HP is lost in the drivetrain.

Normally the drivetrain accounts for about ~12-18 percent to the tire.

Just wondering...how does adding ice to the resovoir (I assume the intake box) improve your numbers? Does it cool the air passing through thus putting colder air in your engine, which TL's tend to like?

I know that mine loves it when it's below 0 outside. With dry roads and below 30 degrees fahrenheit, the TL roars when under WOT. Gotta love VTEC.

ice helps cool the engine and the air into the engine. a cooler engine will make more hp than a hot one. as a engine sits off the temp will rise before it goes down. icing helps to keep it from spiking and lowers it
