Going downhill

Is it just me or is the quality of this forum going downhill? I remember when I first joined a few months ago, people were so friendly and helpful. All in all, I believe people are still quite helpful on this forum but the friendliness have been marginal at best. Nowadays, I find it difficult to enter a thread and not find somebody flaming somebody. Take a look, you'll notice that if a thread has more than 10 posts, the chances are, the last 5 are people flaming each other. My opinion is, if you have something constructive to say to benefit the particular subject, say it. If not, leave it alone. How hard is that to do? I don't usually troll around other forums, but are they like that also? I believe we drive a relatively classy car, why don't the drivers act that way? I know this thread will have a big chance of getting moved to OT, but since I don't ever go there, I can't speak how polite people are on there. That's the reason why I post in TL-S. Sorry mods.

I think this forum is still pretty friendly. If you want to see a hostile board, hit the BMW forums at www.roadfly.com - they rip everyone apart over there - i've never seen anything like it.

Hey, I agree with you Axleback. It seems that it's getting harder and harder to have a mature, open discussion without people taking things personally or trolls jumping in and making ridiculous statements. I don't know why or what we can do about it, though...

It's the damn newbies, they are taking over!
On a serious note, there are many of us ready to help and share our knowledge but also want the rest of the users to be self proficient by doing searches before posting a beaten to death thread. Some of us vent our frustration by posting a sarcastic reply but since the tone of "voice" can not be detected over the net some people take it as an insult.

I gotta agree, I worded a subject wrong and got flamed for both that and my question, and I was dumb enough to flame back...sorry about that BlueXTC, nothing personal, just was mad at the moment.

WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF THIS USELESS THREAD???

j/k
Some people don't realize the use of Caps is yelling, that the use of the smilies should help differentiate if one is being sarcastic, funny or really mad.

Like thephantom said, for some that have been around awhile react when they see the same question a zillion times and someone comes around with the same question for their first post without doing a search.

There are those that have been around like thephantom, juniorbean, myself and others that will still answer questions, sometimes well suggest doing a search first (some people take that as an insult when it isn't)

Some are antagonistic...ignore them.

First of all, thank you for this post, it's an excellent topic that needs to be addressed.

What I think happens, is someone post or poses an innocent question or comment, then some wear down the line, another person makes a sarcastic remark, from there it's on.

Case in point, thephantom, stated "It's the damn newbies" which is bit hostile, but also a blanket statement against all newbies.

I don't know, him/her and suspect he's a great and well-respected person. But, it-would-not-be-a-stretch for some "newbie" to take offense to that statement and rail back with a follow-up statement, even though it "seems" like he intend to be just kidding, sans the (j/k).

Makes you want to say Hmmmm....

I did follow up by saying "On a serious note.." Right? SO you would think the first line was a joke, right? Thought so.

"The damn newbies!" was sarcastic.... I picked that up too.

The creative spelling, creative caps, and flames seem to come from the same people over and over. It makes me want to turn away and brings down the over all quality of the shared info on this board. No one here is omnicient and we all have our own opinions... right or wrong.

I know if I wrote, yet alone SPOKE like how some folks post around here my head would be off to the right and I'd be 3" shorter from getting popped all the time

I agree that there are more flames being thrown around now, but I honestly think alot of it comes from a mix of ignorance, big egos, and plain old stupid questions(threads)..I don't think there would be so many problems if people thought twice before posting questions and answering them.

Lets start fresh-

This site has been helpful to me with my recent purchase and Juniorbean,Soundspeed and several othors have given good advice to me - It has ultimately been to my advantage when I went to purchase-

I went so far as to write in my contract that if my tranny gives me issues I will be gauranteed a TLS to drive or of greater value when my TLS gets bogged down at the dealer- hopefully it wont happen-

Thanks to everyone for their great advice- Lets Post Positive feeds!!!

Jerky responces also come from people who are hiding behind computer screens running their mouths - and wouldn't say a word to the same guy in person because they don't have the guts. Sound familiar, anyone?

There are always a few bad apples to ruin the sauce. Every forum I'm on, I see plenty of them.. usually some kid with nothing better to do.. you just have to know when to say when...
