Getting the upgraded tranny

well after taking my car to aamco and almost getting screwed. i decided to get the upgraded from ed's quality transmissions in apopka. screw acura and their crappy tranny's im getting this one built bullet proof. eventually i want to get the SC and some other goodies to add HP since this new beefed up tranny will be able to handle it no problem. i think ed will also be putting in an LSD woohoo! if anyone else has done this tranny upgrade please contact me. thnx

3400$ and im not sure about everything he does but he uses kevlar clutches, upgraded torque converter with braised fins (withstands heat better) and 200 more RPm stall speed. also a shift kit that makes the tranny shift faster. let me see what else. LSD hopefully he said if he could find it he would put it in there. also all of the springs and stuff that is used to rebuild the tranny is titanium.

Well good luck with that, keep us informed...Everytime I see the mention of a upgraded tranny people just say it doesn't work, but this would be good news for someone keeping their TL for the long run...SAVE UP before that 100,000 mile mark.

From that loooong analysis thread someone here did on the tranny problems it seemed that heat would build up in little pockets in excess of 1,000 degrees (Of course under HARSH testing), but regardless I hope that beefed up internals could handle all that

i hope so too, i am going to add the tranny oil cooler aswell to keep things a little cooler. for you guys holding the brake down and giving it gas, that is a big no no. it creates an emmence amount of heat. my torque converter was all burned up.

Just when you get it done, please do a write up:-) on how it feels and keep us updated

Someone feel free to show me otherwise but I see no real "info" on beefed up trannies, and I've done a good 3 or 4 different searches. I see mentions of it, and people saying "hey, do this..." or "hey check this out..." but nothing really worth looking at.

Also, does anyone have that link to where someone here read like a 1,000+ page book detailing the transmission problem and along with that he gave small little write-ups on each section of this book?

If you haven't already check out the Acura-CL.com forums ... thats where most of the info has gone down regarding beefed up trannies. You can also find the link with the analysis of Honda's finding to the NHSTA in the Transmission forum on Acura-CL.com ... Or just click on the little "CL" text at the top of this website ... Same difference.

i dont know if you realize it, but velocity resources (now known as speed distributors) USED to and STILL does this upgrade for the TL's. guess what? its CHEAPER from them. they have different packages and i believe one of them is $2500. the best part (for you) is that they are located in the orlando/tampa area. look them up on acura-cl.com/

Its true some of the 5ATs in the TL/CLs have a viscous LSD. DeansBlackCLS discussed it when he was talking about the upgraded trannies. Dunno how you can tell other than taking apart the tranny or how much of a difference it makes... but its there in some of the trannies.
