Be glad if you don't live where it snows... I woke up last week to this...

That's about a 1/2 of snow, then a 1/4 inch of ice, then another 1" of snow...

Total cleaning off time - 45mins.

I need to move south... snow and freezing rain suck!

Just thought I'd vent a little bit and show how good you guys in Hawaii and southern states have it... anyone have worse pics that took them longer than 45mins. to clean off?

At least the ice will prevent your car from getting dirty.

That's happened to me plenty of times when I lived in NY. The way to get into the car is to slam your body weight against the car door to make cracks in the ice (don't worry it doesn't damage the car). Then you start the car and let it sit for about 20 minutes (if the car feels like starting). Then you scrape more ice off. Then you may drive. I absolutely do not miss that!

im live in jersey, but in ny most of the time. it rains alot here, but it drops below freezing level during the night time and starts snowing. its annoying when that happens, all that rain water on the car freezes over the whole car, giving about a 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch of ice, then about a good 3-4 inch of snow on top of that. yeah.. northeast side sucks too. at least its not snowing 24/7 here. its rain during the day, freezing and snow during the night. but every once in a while it gets up to 45-50 so that's when everyone whips out the hose, buckets, and soap.

someone mentioned about throwing your body weight to your car door..... it does help!

it happened to me last wk, not a good thing in -10c weather + the wind chill. i also hate when your windows wont roll down and you look stupid getting out of the car at a mc donald's drive through.
the worst was when i got into the car and found out there was only 1 line of gas left. i spent another 10 minutes at the gas station trying to ever so carefully etch away at the ice trying to pry my gas door open with my bank card. i wanna move back to s. calif.

Forgive me for not knowing about such things since I've lived in the South all of my life, but why can't you put a car cover on the car and after it gets iced over just pull it around the edges to crack the ice and pull the ice off in pieces. I'm sure there is some reason this won't work but it seems like it would.

I had that happen to me once in Toronto on Thanksgiving day... it rained all day and by the time I woke up, it was all frozen. It took a while to clean it off at the hotel parking lot.

no, no pait job problems yet, but the salt doesn't help much... I prefer to just hit the car to break the ice, but I guess the body weight thing works too... haha have fun in Florida and Cali.

The ice is harmless to the paint, it's all the salt they put on the roads which cause the most problems.

The car cover idea will work but it might take some time to peel it off the car and it won't want to fold small enough to fit into your trunk without a struggle.

It's often quicker to get a good ice scraper (using a bank card sucks) and just scrape the glass (provided you can get the ice scraper out of the car) - the sun will eventually take care of the rest of the car.
