fixed my pillar problem

ordered some vinyl overlays for a member on here and put them on today. all though i would like them be be a bit wider but i managed to work with what i got.
before:

taping off:

sanding 220grit:

sanding 800grit:

after 800grit:

make sure u got enough vinyl to cover the whole pillar (would like a bit more vinyl on the sides but i managed) :

once everything is dry and clean from any dust start to apply vinyl. helps if u got another pair of hands to help:

i tucked the vinyl inside the weatherstrips so it looks cleaner.

finished:
drivers side

passengers side

Very nice job.

I wonder if it could withstand the heat, and specially water since you didn't have enough vinyl to wrap the pillar.

i had enough vinyl to cover it all up and tuck it in. but it took a lot of work to make it fit just right. if i got about 1/2" more on either sides it would have been much easier and wouldnt need another pair of hands

I bought plotter paper overlays for mine, but I f'ed it up so many times trying to get it right. I took the pillars off though to attempt it. I'm gonna have to try your method now, either that or just wetsand them down with fine grit and polish them with plastic polish and wax over them. Great job

It depends on the quality of the overaly. Get some good plotter paper, like what businesses use to make signs with and they can last 5-7years, but I would recommend only handwashing your car if you want them to last a long time. A roll of plotter can last a long time since you use a small amount for the actual pillar.

do you think its possible to just tape around the edges and spray paint them instead of taking them off. im pretty lazy and would rather take the easy way out by just getting some tape and some newspaper to cover up around the pillars and then paint them. anyone think there will be a problem with doing this?

It looks good, my concern is at the bottom where water will sit a little longer that it will start to peel up.

Any chance you can give us a 6 or 12 month report?

Glad you are happy with my product!

I can cut the overlays larger but chose not to so extra trimming was not involved in the installation process- If I receive more feedback like yours (you are the first), I will modify the design

Also- for those who were wondering about durability- I had mine for 5 months before I traded my TL in and they showed zero signs of wear. I did wax them regularly with the car. The vinyl is rated for 9 years outdoors and is designed for automotive applications.
