engine light came on

this morning i went down stair to warm up my car before i head out to work and i notice that i forgot to take my key out of the ignition. so i took my dad's truck and jump it. the car start up but i notice that my engine light came on and stay on. now this is the time i need all your expert to help me out. is it the battery dying out, or maybe alternator is going bad and that's the reason why the engine light came on? or i recently change out the spark plug on the car, maybe one or 2 plug i didn't plug it n right. i gotta take my car to shucks to have them pull the code see what is exactly what is wrong with the car...but untill then i just wanna know what you guy think what is going wrong with my tl...or maybe should i just go ahead and reset the car by disconnect the battery and see if the engine go away for good . sorry for the long post

any idea or suggest. would be apreciated
thanx in advance

Until you get a code read all we are doing is guessing as well. Try pulling the clock backup fuse on the passenger side dash fuse panel and see if the CEL goes away.

oh ok....i just went to my car on my breaking thinking of disconnect the battery to see if the engine light will go away but i was afraid that after i do that the battery won' t have enought juice to start up the car so i did that but instead i let the car idiol and have my foot on the gas padel keeping the rpm at 2K and after a min or so i notice the engine went away.... i really don't know what' s the deal but i'm just happy that the engine light is gone... so should i go ahead and chang out the battery since the battery is about 5 yrs old and i was thinking of getting the optima battery what do you guy recommend?

I woudl just go get a new battery. If you have to go thru that and worry about if its going to start its time for a new one. I love the optima, and recommend them.
