Unhappy Driver comfort

Hello all,

I joined the TL-s club last week - NBP w/ Navi, parchment interior, spoiler, wood steering wheel & shifter, mud guards and all-weather mats. I've been browsing this forum for a couple of weeks and have already picked up some great tips - thanks! I can see a big order for Zaino products happening soon :p

So far I am delighted with the TL-s, with one exception. I am 6'0" and 190 lbs, and I am having some difficulty finding a comfortable driving position. If I position the seat so that my arms are comfortable, then my right leg rubs up against the center console. If I adjust the seat so that my legs feel right, then the steering wheel is too far away (too bad it doesn't telescope!) Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a happy medium. I upgraded from a '97 3.2TL and I had no problems getting comfortable in that car.

I noticed similar comments in Motor Trend's 1-year update of the '99 TL - it was the only negative comments made about the vehicle.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I had the same problem at first but then got use to it, for me I feel like the car is short on head room. Also there feels like there is a bar running across the back of the seat below the lumbar region. Got use to that too.

I'm 6'2". I have to deal with my right leg rubbing the center console. It sucks, but I'm already used to it. It moslty sucks when it's hot out and you are wearing shorts. Leg sticks to the console and just gets irritated. I went on a 500 mile road trip this past monday and tuesday, and i feel fine. Big guys don't fit into too many cars imo. Just have to make some concessions.

6'2" and 210 here, and I went from a nice BIG roomy Jeep into the TL/S.

Took me at least a month to get used to the car's seating position, but its fairly comfortable now.

I locked the seat settings once I got them right - I don't want to fiddle with that ever again!

Yep, my backside found that too. It seemed to line up perfectly with the belt loop on my Levi's. My solution was to lean the seat back a touch and then move the seat forward to compensate.

Every car has a different fit and feel. In my experience, the Acura sedans have always had a low roofline which required me to lay the seat down further than most other full sized cars. I usually like to sit more upright but cannot in the TL. It's just something you get used to. On the plus side, the S front seats sit you about 2" deeper than the P model.

Well, I've now had the TL-s for a little over three weeks and I have yet to discover a comfortable driving position.

It seems to me that the seat is not adequately bolstered on the sides. I've noticed that seats on other vehicles contain more side bolstering (i.e. the seat sides have a pronounced "rise") which helps to keep the legs in place. The forward part of the seat sides are essentially flat, which offers no thigh support. As a result, my right leg wants to flop over, and I have to use my leg muscles to keep it in place.

I've tried all kinds of seating positions - up, down, forward, back, upright, reclined and everything in between, to no avail. It's a real bummer, because I haven't been able to enjoy my otherwise awesome car, and I am beginning to regret my purchase.

I'd like to hear from some other larger folks (I'm 6'0" and 190 lbs.) about your seating position and if you are able to find a comfortable position.

Thanks!

I found it hard to get comfy too! I'm 5'11" and 190lbs. In order for my legs to be streched out, I put the seat pretty far back, subsequently, I need to reach for the wheel. But the rest of the car makes up for this minor issue!

Yeah, I'm basically pushing the seat fairly far back and leaving the height at its lowest setting. Agreed that the other parts of the TL make up for this - I'm just hoping that over time I'll figure out something that works.

im 5'11 160....try to have the bolster up as high as you can so your knees are slightly bended...and then back up the seat to the point where your knees are resting on the seat...and then tilt the seat back forward so you can reach the steering wheel..thats what i did....
