Need help from insurance expert
I'm in the market for a $30k car. The TL-S is one of my top choices. However, I have a problem with insurance. You see, I have 2 tickets with no points. One of them (turning on red) was taken to court and was found guilty but since it was my first ticket, points were not put on my record. The second one (failure to stop for schoolbus <that was stupid>). I was never pulled over for this one. Bus driver got my liscence and told the cops. Cop called me and I admitted to it. He issued a ticket but with no points. Right now, I am under my dad's insurance policy and on the chargeable offenses page, none of my tickets show up. My question is if I go to another insurance company, will I have to tell them about my tickets and will they ever find out about them? Thank you guys for any input.
They will ask you if you have any accidents, claims, or tickets. Even if you don't tell them, they have the ability to do a search and find out.
Why not call a few companies and get some quotes?
Just tell them you have a couple of minor tickets but no speeding tickets.
One thing is for sure, you will be better off staying under your dad's insurance and having him purchase the car under his name.
Other factors which lower insurance are:
1. where you live (rural is generally cheaper than urban)
2. whether you drive to work (cheaper if you take public transit and use your car for personal use only)
3. high deductable, especially for collision (you may as well because for a fender bender, you are better off paying out of pocket for anything less than $500 or $1000 anyways because the insurance company will raise your premiums)
You can get as many free quotes as you want so do your research and vary the parameters and see how much of a difference it makes.
Personally, I'd stay with the family policy until you are 25.

All those violations should have been recorded with the registry. When they check your record it will or will not show up, in your case, probably not. You don't have to answer any questions because your file should speak for you.
They WILL pull your records, so you may as well just tell them upfront. As Hemants said, get some quotes, should be pretty easy if you know what car and what coverage you will get. You can do it online - State Farm is pretty accurate on their estimates, and you can try Progressive as well, or just compile a fax with all your info, including tickets (make sure to include date of tickets and that there are no points), and fax it to a few of the local agents. I had to do it a few years back after an accident, so I took a day off and sent out like 30 faxes, and a few people got back to me the same day, and I had a policy next day. It doesn't hurt you to try a quote, worse case - just stay with your dads' insurance for a while longer.
