Doors locking by themselves???? Auto Door lock????

It seems that many times when I'm making multiple trips loading and unloading my Acura, the doors are locked when I come back out.

I thought that maybe the remote is extra sensitive and when I lay them down on the counter, I accidently hit the lock button.

I've paid close attention to what I may or may not be doing over the past few days, but it still keeps locking. I had the keys in my pocket yesterday with the trunk open and I heard the doors lock. It happens more when the trunk is open.

Is there some type of auto door lock on the TL?

Maybe I'm just going crazy or something!!!

If you lock the doors using the remote, then unlock them, but don't open them within like 60 seconds, they relock. If you turn off the car, doors unlocked, and get out - doors will stay unlocked. I haven't noticed my doors lock when I open the trunk though....

I just bought this 00 TL last month and I love it except for it having this problem.

I was driving a Ford Exploder before and the only thing I liked about it (aside from being able to pull my boat) was it had the key pad that allowed me to unlock the doors. I have always had a bad habit of leaving my keys in my car.

I guess I have to start remembering not to be an idiot!!!

Is there anyway to turn off this auto door locking feature???

It only automatically locks when it is unlocked from the key fob and the driver door is not opened. If, for instance, you unlock the car and only open the back door, then it will automatically lock the doors. You'd almost have to be deliberate in locking your keys in your car. I've never done it once with the TL and have had it for about a year.

I have a '02 Type-S, is there a way to make the power locks automatically lock when the car starts moving? I had a VW with this feature and really liked it.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Quite a few cars have this safety feature from the factory. It can be done to your TL, but it may take a separate alarm system. My old Mazda MX-6 had an alarm with this feature.

I have this feature on my 2000TL when I added the aftermarket Clifford alarm system when I purchased the car new. I also like the RPM autolock feature the car should have come with it as a standard feature. When I got the alarm put in the day after I purchased the car 4yrs ago it had this feature & I had the installer turn it on. With my alarm you can have the doors lock when the car reaches a set low speed or RPM. Also the system would unlock the door when the car was put in park. I did not like this part but it could be turned off & have only the doors lock when the cars RPM hit a cetain RPM or speed limit. Mine will lock at about 5-10MPH or if the RPM of the car gets to a certain interval like pushing the gas pedal while parked. So you would need to get a aftermarket alarm system with this feature.

You can turn off the AutoLock feature by unlocking the car using the key in the driver's door, and not the remote key fob. How it gets turned on again is when you lock the car, you press once and the lights blink. You press a second time and you get the beep. The beep is not the confirmation that the car is locked, it is the confirmation telling you the AutoLock feature has been turned on again.

Without an aftermarket alarm, there is no way you can get the doors on a 2nd gen TL to AutoLock once the vehicle is put in drive or starts moving. You need a relay installed.
