Most oil changes places tighten the plug way past spec and its a real pain to remove.
AMG:
I bought the entire plug and washer unit in 1 bag at zone.
Their washer was mystery plastic, while the CORRECT washer from dealer is copper, so grab a few while you drop by acura too.
When I next changed my oil- the washer had a very odd and disconcerting melt? hole in it, not at the edge where it would leak, but enough to merit another trip for a copper washer.
Once the plug has been overtorqued- and you can be certain it has every time until YOU do it, it stresses the metal= no good anymore

eric- americans use quarts of oil and are not the most reliable coversion information source!
but our car hold 4.7 USA Quarts of engine oil with the new filter. Many of us toss in the entire 5 qts and its fine, no so overfilled as to be a danger to the engine.

I once did 5.5 quarts by accident once. Drove 30 miles before I realized.
I had total of 5 new qaurts of royal purple and 1/2 quart left over from the RSX. Not thinking I first added the 1/2 quart and then 5 new ones.
O well this was 3 month ago and when I realized I just loosened the oil filter and let some out.

fsttyms1 Can you go straight to a synthetic with a High Mileage TL. I spoke to a friend and he said because my car is use to regular oil and due to high mileage that I should stick to what the car has been using. He recommended that if I plan on doing it to do it gradually go with a synthetic blend first then eventually go fully synthetic

Anybody use this fumoto valve for their oil changes and eliminating splashing oil?

I have a couple friends with subies who use it and say it works really well. I guess for our cars, we would need to purchase that adapter.

Do you have more than 200k miles- no? then its not high miles for a TL engine
It is a good idea to run seafoam or other brand engine cleaner thru the oil
when switching over.
The engine doesnt care whats in it- you can run a semi, dino or full synthetic different at each oil change. Overall engine life/ oil lifespan and basic fuel economy are the differance
Our moderator fsttyms1 ran dino until 100k, then started on synthetics and 10k+ miles per oil change interval. His engine looked still new inside at 200k~

There are some great photos of the Fumoto valve in this thread:

The reason I wanted to do the switch is when I looked underneth my GF car is saw some oil leaking from the plug. She has been taking it to Monroe and I want to start doing the oil changes and thank to this thread I have found a lot of information. What would be the problem if it is leaking oil?
