It was probably a CSX, Shelby Shadow. A friend of mine used to have one, turbocharged, very quick and fast.

The Chrysler 2.2L turbo engine put out between 174~224HP stock depending on the application.

He may have had the intercooled turbo III used in the Spirit and Daytona R/T.

The Spirit R/T sedan, btw, had published 0-60 times of 5.8sec, 1/4mile in 14.9@97, and top speed of 141. Pretty impressive for a decade old K-car with the aerodynamics of a shoebox.

At least you admitted defeat. There are some cars out there that will catch us off gaurd. There are a lot more sleepers than you think. I raced a fvcked up looking early 90's civic in my contour once and got my arse handed to me. We both pulled into a gas station. And i found out that he was running a GSR motor, with lots turbo. I couldnt hear his car because i had dual borlas and a KKM intake so i was rumbling. He told me that he didnt want to paint the car and hook the body up because people wouldnt race him. So all he did was put on some better tires and work the engine and interior. He also told me that there is a car club of these super worked sleepers.

Back 12 years ago, I was also looking at the Shelby (Dodge) CSX Shadow turbo. I was glad that I bought an Integra instead. It was cheap and fast, perfect for youngsters like me, who just finished school and started to work.

The CSX was very fast with 175 hp (the torque peaked at low rpm) in a small car, complete with low profile tires and areo package. But the suspension was so hard that it would rattle your teeth out even on relatively smooth pavement. The 2.2 iron block had a tendance to crack with age. The turbo was an inovative design at the time. It was called variable vane turbo charger. The turbo blades could change angles during different turbo boost and car speed conditions. This design was supposed to eliminate any turbo lag at low speed , and would spool up very fast at high speed. However, probably because of too many moving parts, this turbo failed easily. Chrysler only used this turbo design for one year because of warrranty problems.
