Damage To My Header Flexpipe, Need Advice
OK, so im under the car today and i find this:
i have no idea how this happened because i have not driven the car anywhere different since i got it back with the headers on Tuesday. i am really wondering if the header came like this since the rest of it is unscratched. does anyone think this will cause me to have an exhaust leak or am i reasonably protected by the flexible pipe inside?
should i get it repaired, purchase a new downpipe or follow action since i think it came like this? (although a defect of this nature would have certainly been noticed before it shipped i think.
thanks in advance.

that shows signs of scrapping something. i highly doubt it came that way. odds are you scraped something and didnt notice that you had. if you start to hear it leaking id suggest getting a new downpipe. i dont think that they are repareable

thats definitly a scrape that was caused while driving. i highly doubt it wouldve even been packaged with a damage like that. youre going to have to purchase a new set of downpipe man.

well i agree with you guys, i doubt it would have come like that although i really think there would be other damage if i had scraped something that hard. im thinking maybe ill just port my stock downpipe and manifolds and put em back on. i dunno. this really pisses me off.
but i really need a sanity check now because there *is* another pipe inside that braid right? that braid is not the only thing holding in the exhaust gasses i would hope.
does megan even sell single downpipes? i'll have to email them.

if you look at how much lower that flex pipe part hangs than the rest itc very posible that thats the only thing that scraped if there wasnt another pipe inside that or you tore thru that you WOULD hear the exhaust. it would be very loud! i guess your going to have to contact megan and see what they have to say

keepingitclean - i appreciate your help, and i got your PM.
for anyone else who is interested, i did end up emailing megan myself today and they said $125 for a new downpipe. i agree with everyone else though that since it's not leaking i'm not going to worry about it for now. thanks for everyone's help though.

This is one reason why I don't like the megan design with 2 flex sections. The other is many people seem to hear resonance from this section.
See if a muffler shop can weld in a peice of straight pipe for a couple bucks. WOn't harm anything since you still have one flex section, and prevents it from happening again.

On alot of header applications I have seen, the flex pipe was added in to help prevent resonance; not cause it.

its not the flex pipe, its just because the downpipe hangs so low and the flex pipe is just about a centimeter closer to the ground. Don't worry about it, same thing happened to my downpipe a while ago and its fine, unless u manage to scrape the pipe inside that which is pretty impossible, ur fine.

well, i'm looking at what mclarenf3387 wrote and i'm wondering if this is at all my problem. i am still getting pronounced resonance during acceleration, although not alot, and not all the time. plus *whenever* i give the car gas above cruising speed i can hear a mixed whoosh/vibrating sound.
oddly enough my manifold bolts are tight (at least in the front), so i'm kinda stumped right now. i suppose it wouldn't hurt to go back and tighten *every* bolt from the cat to the manifolds. any thoughts?
thanks for the sanity check everyone. the car does not sound like a motorcycle so it's unlikely i have a leak, although i am going to think about putting in a straightpipe as mentioned because i am curious about how many people are getting resonance from this section of the downpipe. any thoughts?

yes, there could be a tiny leak, but i would think it's unlikely since it only makes noise in drive. plus the noise is distinctively metallic.
