D5 light blinking (or was)
D5 light blinking (or was)
Hi all, going to get straight to the point. My d5 light blinked after i got out of work so i just pulled over.Turned off my car and turned it back on and now it's gone. Now my cel is on. what's the sign here? don't think i can bear to go through another trans...
oh and um, i don't really feel anything different when i drive... it just bothers me that my cel light is on and the d5 light blinked for no obvious reason that i've seen. is there some temp fix?
thank

ur trans is on the way out. thats what causes the d5 to blink and when that blinks u will have trans codes stored in the computer. unplug the battery or take out the radio back up fuse on teh pass side fuse panel. and have ur radio code ready.
what year & mileage? ever had your trans replaced(that u know of) prob going out?

~Its fine until the tcs lights on and D5 flashing and the car barely will pull. I have to shut it off and it will be fine until it does it again. Is this a problem?~
Well if it does what i said above then dude your tranny is on its way out. It's only a matter of time. What's the year and mileage because that plays part if your covered under warranty and whether you can get goodwill coverage.

trust me, u dont want to be cruising 80 on the highway and have the trans go into limp mode, drop into second, tires lock, and u feel like u hit a wall. been their, done that. twice. start saving for a trans and ask the dealer for some goodwill. take it to some reputable shops around ur place.
thanks for the quick replys
it;s an 03 tl and, well i've already had my trans replaced at about 180k miles bout 3 or 4 months ago, now its at 189k. aamco told me that they had to replace the whole thing and kept only a part of the casing. i still got a warranty under them so i could get it checked out. would be a shame though if it was the tranny again. i might try that test for the trans to see if it is going bad. but it seems like im just gona pull the battery and if it comes back i should be worried? lol.
btw do tl trans work not as well when its like dead freezing?

shifting will be harder and rpms will stay higher until the engine/trans is warm
u should be worried now. take it to aamco right away before its too late. they might not get the d5 to blink but u will be in their records when teh trans does go out.

no problem, and you got to make sure if the D5 light flashed. because by your thread it seems your unsure.
about tranny concerns regarding freezing temps. i learned early startup while the engine is warming up the tranny is too and the engine will shift a little later and harsh due to the engine warming up but after engine is operating temperature then everything is fine. if not then something is wrong.
i advise you to check your fluid (smell and level and while smelling make sure its not a burning smell, if so then pretty much the tranny is done).
change your fluid if the level or color is not pink.

Before anyone jumps to conclusions go have the codes read. A flashing D5 often means trans temp sensor. Its a cheap easy fix (a flashing d5 can also indicate a trans failure like the others said)
its an aamco rebuilt- they saved the original case and replaced the worn out parts inside- thats standard
Acura gives you a new case with better oil passages
get to aamco NOW- you have warranty
Would not surprise me an aa rebuild took a dump after a few months or the sensor as kris suggest

A flashing D5 could be the tranny temp sensor, could also be something else causing the tranny temp sensor to flash. In most cases tranny temp sensor failed due to overheating, overheating is caused by lack of fluid flow, lack of fluid is caused by poor passage or clogging, and worst it is the tranny itself is going out. check fluid condition, drain and refill if needed, and it is easy and cheap to replace the tranny external filter, that is the number one aiding to the tranny failure. Of course if it is still under warranty, take it back for them to check.
Have the codes checked. I had a wheel speed sensor going out last year and it acted just like the transmission going out. Every time it would rain the sensor would act up and D5 would flash and lock up. Finally had it replaced at the dealer.

I recently drained and filled the ATF. However did not know there is an external filter I could have replaced easily to help. Please show how.
Yes, I have read the DIY for ATF replacement several times. No mention of external filter or how to replace it. Did a search of forum and found one thread that talks about filter that are internal and how it does nothing to help with tranny. Guess I am confused.
WHY are these transmissons a peice of junk, you think after all the recall it would correct the issue but it seems that isnt the case either, I pray i have no issues!!! just bought a 00 TL 144k
^we all pray and still get fuked over. some are luckier than others. the car is 8-10years old, their not gonna go and redesign the trans at this time. all they can do is keep rebuilding them. u can swap in teh 04-06 tl trans and some 07tl trans. but the 04-05 trans still had some problems if i recall correctly. or the odyssey trans bc they hardly ever fail and all u need to do is swap some sensor over and tap a few holes that are already their
or go 6spd
or go 6spd
duke- welcome to the forum, please read up on the actual failure issue-
the recall was a seperate issue and did not go inside the trans
There is not enough cooling oil flow or enough clutch packs/disc for 2nd and 3rd gears for the power the car makes
04 05s has same problems-basically same trans, then a change was made in 05- we got a new case design on the warranty replacement and so did gen3
much less probs now but they still fail- even gen3
Not every original will fail- ask someone in a parking lot with a TL and they wont know about it
Best plan with 144- is go buy a trans replacement warranty today- $300-400 now or 4 grand later
