Resetting the Maintaince Light. ive looked at the diy

So i bought a k&n filter on ebay. guy sends the wrong one that doesnt fit on the type-s. I cut around it to make it fit on my car. now it sounds like really loud because 1. it dont fit 2. there is a little gap because the box wont close all the way. So i try resetting the maintaince light with the select & reset. It never works!

the maintenance light should have nothing to do with how your air filter fits..

the maitenance light is your oil change reminder and is reset by holding both trip buttons in then turning key to ON- wait for light to flash several times then its reset

for your running problem the air filter box top must fit tight- thats why the rubber seal on the K&N- any air leaks and it may throw a CEL check engine light
you must fix the problem to clear that

take a trip to the nearest parts stores and buy a plain filter
Install
Pull fuse #12 or 13- whichever says CLOCK on passenger side of cabin- front
put back in- that forced a master reset of the ECU and should clear a CEL if the airbox was the issue
May require use of a code scanner that can also clear codes.. see parts stores for use of theirs
