help with D5 light and clicking sound
Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could help me diagnose this problem. I have a 2002 TL Type-S and I noticed while driving to work last week that my D5 light would blink a few times then stop for a minute then blink a couple of times then stop. It did this three or four times then went back to normal and stayed that way. It was not acting unusual and drove like it should. Today while driving to work I heard a clicking sound coming from my gear shifter and my D5 light blinked a few times then went solid again. Then when I stopped on a hill the D5 light turned off completely but lit back up when I mashed the gas and it drove normal the rest of the way to work. Will this car save the codes for a short period of time or does it clear them when you kill the ignition? I was going to try and have the codes read today.
heres a trans test- at 25 and 35 mph cruising light throttle- in D5, stomp the gas and hold it down to the floor-
does the trans do a positive downshift thru the gears into 2nd and launch forward,,
or does it slip and the rpm may come up but no increase in speed-D5 light flashes?

you are on the edge of the 7 year 9 month warranty so get to the dealer ASAP
they have to write a regular work order for diagnosis- once its found to be warranty they write a new work order and you pay nothing
Expect broken front motor mount- often found with trans prob- they leak and fail, way cheaper to replace with trans removed already-100 part plus 30 dollars vs 200 labor

the car stores codes until you disconnect the battery or remove fuse 13-clock- thats secret backup power to ECU
when you were stopped on hill and mashed gas-D5 blinked- thats a heavy load condition where the weak clutches would show
Was the recall for install of oil jet kit ever done for trans?
Look on top of trans- there is either a big bolt with ATF stamped on it or there is a strange device and hose with 10mm head bolt holding in down- thats the recall installed part

Thanks for your help guys. I had a new transmission but in it around 47,000 miles because it went out. I have about 147,000 on it now so I’m sure it is out of warranty. I’ll see if I can get the codes read today.
when did you last change the trans fluid? ever?
smell the dipstick- dark fluid and burnt oil smell?- its a very distinct odor
it might be a few other things- so lets think positive easy fix- get the codes and go from there
