Yeah, the 2001 and 2002's have a little tiny set of tabs, you'll see what they're talking about when you get it. Also, I believe that someone on Acura-CL.com posted some pics as the 2001 CL started the MY with the old cup holders then changed to the new ones sometime around September.

It ended up costing me max of 9 bucks...THIS is the cheapest mod you'll ever do. The little two tabs are just that...VERY LITTLE. they're about 1 or 2mm long, and are found at the front of the cup holder...just clip them down and you'll be in great shape.

Oh, I didn't know you were all the way in CA. Yeah the shipping charges will cost more then the cupholder itself.
Just go to your nearest dealer or cheapest dealer and get it. But it shouldn't cost more then $10. If it does, go somewhere else.

Post cupholder for 2001 and up

Guys:

I have a 2000 model and I love the cupholder for 2001-2 model. I saw that they are selling it here, but there's note of trim 2 tabs down. Anyone knows what 2 tabs do I need to trim if I am buying it? Any help would be appreciated.

They were the small tabs that were facing the front and rear. Don't clip any big tabs. I clipped them with a small nail clipper, so the tabs are just about that size.

It holds cans, cups or bottles tighter comparing to the 99-2000 cupholder. Because the "wall" that surrounds the drinks is higher. I didn't notice the difference is so significant until I got a 2001 loaner.

The new cupholder is a single piece and the holes are deeper to hold beverages better.

Yes the two plastic tabs are on the front end of the cup holder. The tabs prevent the door on the cup holder from opening all the way. When you trim the tabs off the doors work fine. The finger nail clippers work fine takes about 2 seconds to do.

I just went to my dealer to see them in person, and they told me it cost like $90 or something. I was like, what the hell? That was for the whole replacement thing - what are all you guys getting for $10? Thanks,

Here is the part number that you need.
#77237-sok-a02 this is 2001 cupholder assem.
Its the cupholder for 2001 TL but will fit in 99-00 with no problems after trimming off plastic tabs. The part is the plastic part holder that holds your cups or cans. Just pull out the old one & replace it with this part. The 2000 is not as deep & has a plastic cup part. The 2001 is deeper & it will fit part is about $8-$11. The parts guy at my Acura dealer got confused also but have them punch up that number you want the assembly.
