Crazy or what?

A friend of mines has a TL-S. Of course everyone here is well aware of the tranny problems in our vehicles. The problem is the lack of sufficent lubrication in 2nd or 3rd gears right? Well this is what he has been doing to prevent a failure of those gears. At highway speeds (65-75mph), he would downshift the car to 3rd, once every few days, through the use of SS for a minute or so. Since the problem is lubrication, he said this technique would cause a surge of tranny oil into the 3rd gear and lube it. As for 2nd gear, he would keep the car at 2nd gear up until 40mph once in a while. Once again, claiming, this would surge the 2nd gear with tranny oil and lube it. Crazy or what?!

Hmmm interesting method to avoid the tranny from dying.

Sounds like a possible way to enhance the life of the tranny

I say, I say, if it is bound to fail, it will.... good luck. But I must conceed that if that was the case all of my trannies (3) would have been sufficiently lubed, yet they still failed miserably.

Once every few days is not enough.

Wouldnt do a thing. The 3rd gear clutch packs are too small with not enough cooling. Shifting to them for a short period thinking yout going to get a surge of fluid, is well....stupid. And what does every few days do? its not like the fluid that does get there stays, Every time it shifts to and from it heats up and needs fluid.

I wouldn't know, I just thought I would bring it to everyone's attention and see what other people think about this. I guess he is crazy...haha Is he setting himself setting himself for a quicker tranny failure and possibly engine failure

Why bother. This issue is covered by the recall and the transmission is covered up to 100,000 miles.

he is doing nothing but wasting his time, that doesn't increase any type of lubrication for the issue at hand.
