Just wanted to say that our TLs have some crappy a$$ brakes. Last night I was rushing back home so I was kinda driving a little faster than usual. This usually also includes breaking more and stronger than usual. When I got home I could smell something burning around the wheels. It was a light smell though, but still... any comments?

I had a 2000 TL and now a 2003 TL-S. The brakes on the TL-S seem much stronger than the 2000. I was very disappointed with the 2000. TL-S is better, but could be stronger under hard braking. Pedal still feels a little mushy for my tastes. I wonder if anyone out there has tried the braided lines, rotor/pads upgrades and what the experience has been?

I just ordered Rotora Rotors and Axxis Ultimate Pads and called it a day with my brakes..I know the brakes suck on the TL-S so I just decided to upgrade when it came time for me to change brakes.
If you have a chance to look at the new TL (04) there is a small maybe 10 inch wide by 4inch high by about 5 inches long piece of plastic attached to the bottom of the front bumper, on both sides just in front of the wheels. I was at a dealership the other day and looked at it. the point is to deflect air from under the car to the rotors.
When I heard about it I thought it was a vent from the front of the bumper to the rotors but it is actually a small platic square attached to the bottom, I think it is actually the lowest part of the car, wierd. I don't have any pics though

The car has ample brakes for everyday driving. Yes you might have to push on the pedal but it's quite easy to get ABS to kick in.
The only point of upgrading brakes is if you do a lot of tracking and your pads/rotors over heat and wear out prematurely.
