please. someone. stereo advice.

I have spent so much time and money on my system and it sucks. I got a Kenwood m700 in dash 7 inch touchscreen with a myron davis single din dvd under it. I wasn't happy with that because the myron davis sucks as a cd player, so I just got a single din kenwood cd player and put the myron davis under the passenger seat. This, now, also sucks. Not only does the custom dash kit look crappy, but this kenwood cd player is all junky. Oh yeah and this screen sucks ass too. Its so boring. Not one thing on it moves, like if you have the radio on its just the number of the station on a plain background. There are no graphics or anything.

So I gotta get rid of this kenwood crap. Are there any good screens with just a cd player so I can still use the dvd I got mounted under my seat? Any recommendations...clarion, alpine?

I just need something single din to put in with the metra kit so my dash doesn't look all crappy like it does now.

how about this:

alpine on crutchfield

on sale for $900?

If that's the unit I think it is, it's pretty cool b/c it has a second display that comes on when the unit is closed, to allow you to use it as a normal radio. No CD/DVD built in. If you want that unit, expect to pay upwards of $2k, and the screen must be out all the time. Def go with Alpine tho, it's the best.

get the pioneer avh-p6400cd bit cheeper and really good.

the olny headunits i like are pioneer and alpine.

to our customers in the store, i always recommend if they are buying headunits with lcd, to always buy one with atleast a cd. the cd sound in standalone dvd players is always horriable and and really sucks with "system".

the avh-6400cd has very good options for sound.

pm me if interested.

with the pioneer stuff, you dont need to have the lcd unit out to control channels and sound.

what do you think I should expect to be able to get that pioneer for?

I really want touchscreen, and would prefer Sirius capable since I already have sirius hooked up...

and what about this one....

I don't know what the hell I was thinking buying a stand alone screen and using a dvd player as my cd player. It was terrible. Not only could I not control the dvd player with the screen (never crossed my mind when I bought the stuff), but to do anything with the dvd player I had to use the remote with these tiny little buttons...and the screen would just be either a blank display from the dvd player, or just say 'a/v'...

so for a single din cd player with a screen the best bets are alpine and pioneer....what about clarion?

no matter what everyone reals says about the good picture quality of clarion, the housing, the actual units look flimsy and cheap.

i just put the avh-p6500dvd in my car and i love it. excellent controls, easy to use/navigate, and yes touchscreen.

pm me.

You cant go wrong with pioneer or alpine...both are very good quality brands so its a difficult choice. I've had both brands and they are about the same to me. Go with Pioneer since you want a touch screen. It has everything you need plus touch screen is available on a motorized screen, dvd, cd.

Beetroot,
You can immobilized your screen and put it in the dash (like mine). Get a Kenwood CD changer (hope your screen has CD changer control) and you are all set. Is it too late to start all over again?

I really don't like the screen though. Its the most boring looking thing. There are no graphics or anything and just big ugly block buttons for functions. The background colors are all lousy too.

Decided to strip it out and get an alpine cda 7998 and run my dvd player to two visor monitors instead.

i got that alpine 801 installed in my car an it works pretty well. i shopped around for screens and alpine probably got the best displays. and also i hate those companys always changing their models every year or so, at least alpine don't change that much.

i would have to say look into the alpine iva-d900... cd/dvd/mp3 and probably the best picture amoung all the flip out screens on the market.... the new eclipse flip out screens are also very nice... and they are touch screen...

The IVA-D900 is the brightest picture of any in dash screen on the market, and I will have one in the next few months, but keep your eye on Eclipse. They have some really cool products coming out. The CDA7998 is a great deck, I love the EQ, and don't forget you can get their new Harddrive (supposed to be out in Feb.), that would match the 7998. Good luck bud, did you talk to a salesman before you bought it? Sounds like someone didn't care what they were selling you....

I really liked the 7998, but I ended up going with an Eclipse CD8443. It had everything that the 7998 had minus the cool screen for a few hundred less. I love it. I am really glad I got rid of the big touchscreen...it took up too much room and I'm glad there are no more big moving parts. I'm going to add on the Eclipse Commander unit and some other stuff over time. I kept my dvd player, and I'm going to get visor monitors for video.

And no, never talked to a salesman. I just really liked kenwood stuff back 6 or 7 years ago when I was buying stereos...and just bought blind online for all my parts. Too bad kenwood sucks now.

Is the new one touch screen? One problem is the technology is still being perfected and the screens out on the market now will look shitty in a year or so as the pixels either go out or become fuzzy from the repeatitous pressure. Just my opinion, but I wouldn't buy any touch screen until a few more years. Obviously I like the pioneer stuff and can give good advice on these models. Alpine is great, but it sounds like you got something that is working well for you now. Please post pics of metra kit and your new eclipse.

yeah the kenwoods are both touchscreen, the m700 and the kvt911. I thought picture quality was incredible, with dvds it looked really really nice. I just didn't like the other screens for sirius, cd, am/fm. They had big blocky buttons and there were not any graphics or anything. It was like using an apple IIe or an old school atari or something, just real ugly.

I'll put a pic up of metra with the eclipse later today...

Oh yeah...problem I had with the touchscreen is that it always gets smudged in the places where you touch a lot (radio presets, etc)
