Concerns with my TL . . .
Concerns with my TL . . .
What's up everyone? Lately I have been noticing that when I start my vehicle I get a very slight ticking noise that increases as I increase the RPMs. Sometimes when starting the vehicle cold it does not tick at all, engine sounds perfectly smooth while increasing RPMs. Has anyone experienced anything somewhat similar to this? I thought maybe it could be the valves that need adjusting, but I was always under the impression that these cars don't ever need the adjustment. I should also add that on one occurance I continued to hear a very very slight ticking noise coming from underneath the valve cover area (nearest the oil cap area) after shutting off the car. This continued for about a minute or so and then all of the sudden it stopped cold turkey.
My other concern with my car is the fuel pressure regulator. Is it normal for it to "groan" for about 20-30 minutes after vehicle is shut off? I could be in the garage doing something and every minute or so the car would make a weird "groaning" type noise (from the rear) for about 5secs. It literally scared the living crap out of me the first time I heard it in my enclosed garage, I am wondering if this is something to have looked at?
Any feedback you can provide on these concerns would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. I have a 1999 TL with approximately 107,000 miles!

Guys,
This is a problem on ALL TL's. Mine has this ticking noise also. It's a distinct rythym too...anyways, the sound is coming from under the car, right in front of the driver side rear tire. If you look under the car, there's a small little black box. There is something in there causing this noise. Some have said it's part of the exhaust???
Anyways, the noise you hear is normal, just drive your car and stop worrying

As for the "groaning" sound in the rear, I crawled underneath the car and heard this happen right at the fuel tank. That is why I figured it must be the fuel pressure regulator (I was told it was inside the tank). The less fuel I have in the car the worse it groans while initially sitting idle (maybe about 45-60 minutes after shutting off car). I guess I had better have this looked at. I wonder if the regulator is on its last limb?

vapor valve is the culprit
fsttyms1,
just called an acura mechanic, he indicated that the "groaning" noise i hear is very normal. basically, it is a valve inside the tank that controls the vapors from blowing up the fuel tank by having too much pressure. he went on to say that it would make sense that the lower amount of fuel i have the worse it will be since there are more vapors with less fuel, and little to none with a full tank. it is just funny hearing my car makes weird noises although it isn't running at all. i guess some valves make louder noises than others.

i have the ticking noise too.....it happened AFTER i had the car for a few months so it's not a "normal" normal thing, but.........it's not BAD. ACURA told me it's the "solenoids" ticking....i don't think i should believe them....friggin liars.
as for the groaning, i've always assumed the car's pleasuring itself from the kick ass ride i just gave it.
(for the sick people that understood that sentence the wrong way,
when i said "the ride i gave it", i meant when i drove it...)
