Question CompTech Exhaust on TL-S

What do you guys think about the CompTech exhaust on a TL-S. Doesn't the TL-S have a "better" exhaust than the TL? Wayne from Park Ave Acura had the CompTech exhaust on his TL-S at the NJ meet, but I'm not sure it would do that much without the headers.

Any thoughts?

I believe the truth of any hp gain will be revealed on a dyno run... =P~

Just installed my Comptech exhaust. LOVE IT to death. It is mellow but allows the V6 to be noticed. Awesome product.

So Vtecracer... How about trying to get
your car on a dyno and actually find
out what kind of gains you got. I (and probably many of us new "S" owners) would love to hear about any true bolt on HP gains.
Ideally, do a before and after on the exhaust. Too late on the intake as well.
So compared too stock, how much louder is the
comptech? I mean, all I ever hear is wind noise in mine so hearing any exhaust at all
would be a difference.

Thanks alot.

Cool

The gains from the exhaust are very, very minimal. I'm talking 1-3HP tops (yes, they've been dynoed). The reason for this is because the Type-S' exhaust system is already very open and setup for the air to free flow. The Comptech (and most others) are really only for looks and/or sound improvement. Shoot over to the CL forum and ask around if you want, you'll notice a lot of those guys went with exhausts from other companies b/c they sell them cheaper. I know I wouldn't spend over $500 on those exhaust. I'd rather fork out the extra $400-$500 and get the headers. 30hp to the wheel...can't beat that!!

Thanks juniorbean! That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I am having the springs done next week and was thinking of having them do the exhaust, but I believe I will pass on that for now and get the headers in the future.

I have a couple of quick questions for you guys about headers (no exhaust).

1) At low RPM is there any increase in engine noise? (I know they are louder at high RPM. I just don't want increased noise if I'm not all out accelerating.)

2) Is there any downside to engine or transmission reliability?

Thanks for your help

Ok I got the exhaust because it was a bargain from tim. $600 delivered was an awesome price for 2 mufflers. I know that I paid $450-500 for my greddy exhaust on my integra, and it was no where the quality of the comptech's. I am also going to eventually add the headers too, so why not. I also like the look of the exhaust, not those cheesy tips that acura put on there mufflers. It has a larger appearance and helps other people who might not know what a type-s is kinda scratch there heads and say hmmm. what is that car and check out that exhaust. I also miss my supercharged integra, so Exhaust burble is nice to have back. Very subtle, yet noticeable. A must have for any enthusiast.

ummm...I dunno how to break this to ya but when I asked the parts department at the dealer. They checked and it shows no indication that the TL Type-S actually has a different muffler. CL Type-S I'm not sure of. But we did a reference check and the parts have identical numbers.

wonder what this has in relation to horsepower if the tl exhaust is the same as the type-s? I will have to find a dyno and find out. They are few and far between in Salem, OR

This is easy

1) The car sounds stock unless you're pushing it. If you're at low RPM cruising on the highway, you won't notice a difference. When you hit V-TEC, it will sound a little "meaner".

2) No problems for either engine or transmission. In fact it's probably the opposite b/c it allows more air flow, which is good.....

The Type-S has more horsepower for numerous reasons besides just the exhaust. The intake first of all is different. A modification of the plenum space is what allows the Type-S to suck in a larger volume of air. The compression ratio is different too. TL is 9. something while the Type-S is 10. something. TLs redline at 6200RPM, Type-S 6700. But I've heard lowering the VTEC point from 4500 to 4300 in the TL using a VTEC AFC makes out 25hp more.
