Question Cold Air Intake

Good idea or not? If so could someone give me a link to a good place to get one. One that isn't too expensive, but good quality.

Great idea to get one... many people have them... all love it. Get it right from here... click the Intakes link at the top of the page or go straight to www.autocarparts.com . Either the Injen or the AEM are good intakes to get as they are both good and very similar. If you're looking to save a little money.. get the Injen.

or you could mod your OEM intake......it's free, besides the cost of the K&N or comptech. The sound is perfect, and better yet you didn't spend 200 bucks for a metal tube with a $50 filter on the end. Aftermarket intakes are great, don't get me wrong, especially if you want it to look pretty when you pop the hood.....personally I like cheap and the sleeper look

I think it runs from $ 180 -200 either by Injen or AEM

modding the stock intake wont give you the same performance as a CAI since 1) you would be sucking in the air up in the engine bay still and not down by the bumper and 2) you would still have a flat filter rather than a cone filter, which is more restrictive to air 3) the soud isn't as good as the beautiful CAI roar

I just bought an AEM intake, do you really need a bypass or is that just an option? Let me know. Peace

Actually I have it set up so it is sucking air in the bumper......I took out the resonator, and extended the piping with plumbing parts into the bumper...it's pretty easy to do and the sound is really perfect.....my buddy has a comptech icebox on his AV6 and you can't tell the difference between ours. Granted the CAI is going to be a little louder....but I didn't want it real loud. I highly recommend doing it.

It stops water from coming in and messing up your engine should you drive through water deep enough to submerge the filter. I got it for peace of mind, but not needed at all.

after removing the resonator box, the piece (lip) that extends into the box itself sucks the air out of the area behind the bumper and all is well.

i see no need for a expensive metal tube or and expensive drop in filter that doesn't filter as well as OEM.

I am also thinking about getting an intake.

Does it really make the engine that much louder?

Does anyone have a picture of one installed before the bumper was replaced?

Lastly, I live in a hot, humid climate, is it still worth doing?
