Check Engine light on. help.
hey
my check engine light is on. my car runs perfectly fine. what can be wrong with it? im kinda iffy on bringin it to the dealer right away since i have an intake and dont want them to void my warranty if they do find sumthing wrong with the engine. should i be worried about my engine if its running fine or should i just bring it in hoping they can quick fix it witout a problem? i just had a viper 591 remote start installed an im thinking maybe they did sumthign when installing that.
thanks
mike

An intake will not void your warranty.
If it's under warranty just take it in.
What year is it? I'm guessing the code is misfire or EGR.
Let us know......
Heads up, if it's a misfire and your car is within the "hotsoak" bulletin, have it done.

If that doesn't fix it and you want to find out what's up without involving the dealer, go to Autozone, O'Reillys or whatever's close and ask to use their computer that reads the codes. They'll know exactly what you're asking for.
You plug this hand held reader into the slot - probably in a panel just under the coin tray and the machine will read whatever code is telling the cars computer to turn the CEL on. Either the store or someone on this board can convert the code into words - problem description and then we'll go from there.

no need to drive to autozone... all you need is a paper clip...
The hot soak bulletin is a new pcm and fuel pressure regulator.
I have done this to cars with multiple misfires like 1-6 when everything else test fine. Not one has come back for misfires again.
May not be covered since it's a 2000.
