I believe the mod is a replacement for the resonator, which is the gray rectangle with the chrome nuts on the plastic engine cover. It is supposed to help with the airflow passing through the intake manifold when it gets to above the engine. Supposedly it helps increase horses all across the RPM band.

RES or Resonant Enhancement System is what the Mystery Mod is, and I will miss its adopted name dearly.....

Its shape has been optimised (internally) for changing the way the plenum resonates in the 3800+ RPM range. The increased volume of the center plenum does help the torque band below 3800RPM but when designed wrong, looses upper end horsepower over stock. It took awhile to figure things out and many piles of scrap metal.

Additionally, the exterior has to be designed to accomodate the hood clearance and we have installed a few unwanted "power bulges" when shutting the hood or brake torqueing the motor.

Yes it will be in color if demand dictates....It will be Cast in a rough aluminum with a polished machined upper surface which is deep engraved with "RES" in italicized bold NASA lettering.

He is the owner of this site and autocarparts.com. You could either go to www.autocarparts.com or e-mail him at sales@autocarparts.com The product has not come out to the market yet, so you are going to have to wait until it does ( probably a month or two)

About 15hp for the TL-P(won't work on 99's) about 20hp for the Type S.

He said he is, but I personally don't think he can do anything about it, since our manifolds do not use the helmonthz effect( or what ever you called it) I spoke to him and he said one solution is to used the 00' manifold, but the cost of the upgrade is more like $1,000 since there are 9 components that have to be modified or relocated. Another Idea is too designed a new manifold, that would used the helmonthz effect, without having to modified or relocated anyother component. I'll ask him more later. Doesn't look good so far.

Okay, I haven't been keeping track of this mystery mod. And I think it's about time to find out more about it now that we know what it is.

(I'd rather follow someone's suggestion and not do "search" on the topic.)

Bitium, are you the liason?? In any case, you seem to know most of the answers so we go:

1. If not 1999 models, how about 2000? (I don't think 2000 models are called TL-P).

2. Any factory warranty issues?

3. Any known side-effects/ downsides/ by-products to having RES?

4. Any warranty on RES? In other words, how long is the RES' workmanship guranteed for?

5. Will RES work in conjunction with the Comptech SC?

6. Any increase in noise level??

7. Will it be CARB certified? In other words, will it pass smog check in CA? (CA is one of the toughest places.)

8. How much will it be sold for? (Ball park figure?)

That's about it for now until it actually comes out. Thanks tons for the info.

all models are called TL-P except the type S. Yes it will work with 2000 and 2001. The 99's is the only ones that have a different upper manifold.

2. Any factory warranty issues?

None

3. Any known side-effects/ downsides/ by-products to having RES?

None known yet. Very unlikely to have one anyways since it only interacts with the stock manifold and not any other component, plus no moving parts.

4. Any warranty on RES? In other words, how long is the RES' workmanship guranteed for?

I believe 2 years 25k miles, but I might be wrong. I'll check on this.

5. Will RES work in conjunction with the Comptech SC?

It should, but can't be tested until comptech finished development of the SC

6. Any increase in noise level??

NO

7. Will it be CARB certified? In other words, will it pass smog check in CA? (CA is one of the toughest places.)

I should, it will be tested in the next month, before release to the market.

8. How much will it be sold for? (Ball park figure?)

$300

One more question I don't think has been asked yet....

What effect does the RES have on gas milage? Does it go down or up, or stay the same?

Stay the same. In other words you won't notice a change.

Now I got one more question. How difficult might be installation? Is it something that can be done "at home" or it requires some professional installation? How much the installation might cost at acura dealership then? Thanks

I would take about 5min. Is very easy and yes it can be done at home or in the supermarket parking lot when you go shooping.

Why it takes so long to produce?!!!

Why the long wait to get it mass produced? It should have been here last week, I don't like to wait too much for it.... I am running out of patience....

Is there any plan to manufacture a mod like this for the RSX type-s? I bet you could sell about 2,500 of them the first month they were available.
