I pose a challenge:
I took a look at newer navigation systems; most other honda/acura's moved away from having integrated HVAC controls in the navigation's user interface; and for good reason; it's a horrible idea.
One particular model the 7th generation accord still has HVAC controls in particular the manual A/C, fan level and mixer selection.
This model car also features maps that go up to year 2020 and look a heck of a lot better than our 2nd gen maps.
in suite with AV6 swapping; wondering the feasibility of swapping the navi unit and perhaps gps antenna from that of an accord; perhaps 2005-2007 model year.
obvi junkyard sourced to keep cost under $100 (not included updated map).

I thought of going in a different direction. Swap my navi dash and controls for the non-navi. Then replace the radio with a nicer system with navigation. While I don't use the "manual" controls much, it would be nice to retain them to ensure enough cooling for the rear passengers (typically our dogs).
In the meantime, I just suction cup my Garmin Nuvi to the screen. Real time traffic, lifetime maps, lane assist, even a Batmobile or Joker Roadster icon. Yes, it does interfere with the touch panel controls but I can take it off if needed.

I think the issue you're describing is solved by the work I did in this thread.
With the above, you get the benefits of a new Android headunit with your choice of navigation application, while maintaining the manual controls that came with the non-navi models. You just need access to someone who can 3d print ABS for you.

Makes me more grateful for my non-navi.
it crossed my mind i should try to do do an 'eeprom chip swap' with my rare 04 RL orange DVD nav unit, and implant it into an 02-03 DVD unit.
i need more pictures to see what's up though.
i know for sure my 99 hard drive unit has the eeprom chip, and you can easily pull them out and swap them.
what i'm not sure about is if the DVD units, which are much more compact in size, also have these 'chips'.
they are all the same variant of CPU so i suspect there should be something.
if i had one of the developer kits then the possibilites would be endless.
unsurprisingly ever since i've been looking for one two years ago, they've gone missing. the platform was used for multiple generations of cars across multiple manufacturers.
