TLR version: Changed the gaskets on the spool valve to fix an oil leak.
The rest of the story:
I've been seeing some oil leak in the vicinity of the spool valve. I finally got around to replacing the gaskets. The job itself wasn't too bad. However, I did have some difficulty in disconnecting the solenoid harness. It's in a tight spot and I couldn't reach it from above. I knew I was pressing the tab enough but it wouldn't come out. Turns out the spool side connector mounts to a metal tab so instead of pulling on the solenoid side, you're suppose to pull (or push) on the engine harness side. Since I couldn't reach in that far, I pressed the tab to release the connector from the metal tab. Now with the harness loose, there was no room to get both hands in there. Finally, I removed the pressure switch connector and the 3 bolts on the spool valve to swing the entire assembly over giving me just enough room to disconnect it. What a pain for something so simple.
Well the old gaskets were flat and rock hard. What a difference compared to the new ones. I changed the spool valve, the solenoid and pressure switch gaskets.
I bolted everything back together and that dang solenoid connector got me again. I was able to connect the two sides together but there wasn't enough slack to slip it back on the bracket. I didn't want it flopping around. Ended up loosening the 3 bolts again and was able to shift the valve just enough to slip the connector on the tab. Whew!! After a good dousing with degreaser, rinsing and wiping most of it dry, it's all done.
This took much longer than I thought because my dogs kept barking. So I'd stop, go inside to see what's up. They wanted to go out. So I took a break to allow them out. This happened several times. They were no help.
