CAI Maintenance

Just wondering how often do people clean their filter for the AEM CAI.

And how many of you have never even cleaned their filters at all......

I'm asking this because I couldn't find a thread about cleaning the CAI.

I'd like to when, and how to clean the filter. Thanks in advance.

id check it every couple months. To clean it you will need to take the filter off and get a K&N filter cleaning kit (10 bucks at most auto parts stores) and follow the instructions on it. Its very simple

The general rule of thumb is that the filter needs to be cleaned when the dirt build up gets as thick as the wire mesh. The usual interval is 30,000 - 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions. K and N recommend that you check your filter about once a year in normal usage.

Every couple of months sounds more realistic than once a year. Especially with a CAI filter with it being exposed outside of the engine compartment.

I don't take the bumper off. I just undo the black plastic splash guard underneath and pop it out. You might have to jack the car up a little if you're lowered.

Man... I did that this past weekend. Forget messing with the bumper. SOOOOO much easier to go in from beneath. Just be careful with the tap screws.
