Question A/C Capacity

Acura says the A/C can cool a mid-sized house, but I can't find anything anywhere which indicates its cooling capacity. Does anyone know how many BTU it's equivalent to?

I don't think cars are ever rated in that measurement---usually the most i can find or think of for capacity is how much A/C coolant stuff the system has--look under the hood it should say on ur A/C ducting/unit

A friend's Dad who has been in the HVAC business for many years told me most car A/C units are about 5 ton units and my houst, about 1800 square feet, has a 3 1/2 ton unit. Car's are just so thermally inefficient with all the windows and thin insulation so they need massive A/C units to be able to cool.

Hey, all I know is that I have a two bedroom condo with no A/C and I use the 3.2TL-S to cool my condo and it works fine. I just set the TL-S' climate control and we're very comfortable; and I live in South Florida. Terrible gas mileage though.

Yeah me too...just drive the car into the living room, close all the doors and window in the house. Start your engine, open the doors on the car and crank up the A/C. You're house will definitely get cool eventually but you'll be dead from the carbon monoxide coming out of your exhaust.

I'm not kidding either. It really works.

When I was in high school, my parents decided I should buy a POS Hyundai. This was when they first came out, and the big deal was that you could get one for under $5k.

So we looked at the base model and added a tape player and, since we live in Houston, an AC. The AC was a dealer-installed option and the price was $1200.

My dad questioned why the AC costs so much, and the salesman said that the air conditioner had 1200 BTUs. Then he commented that it had more BTUs than a Cadillac (and my dad asked him why it needed such a big AC in such a small car). Anyway, I'm sure it was all BS on the salesmans part, but I guess some people think that's how car ACs are rated.

I use the AC in my TL-S to cool my boat. I run a pipe from the car interior to the boat cabin and drive along beside it when we're out in the boat. It's really good if someones water skiing, twice the wake.
