Buzzing noise when car is off

For the past week I have been working on my car underneath and all around and I hear the strangest thing. It is intermittent and lasts about ten seconds. It sounds exactly like a pager on vibrate mode when its padded like when you hear one go off in the movies in someones poket or purse. Anyone have any idea what it is. Sounds like it comes from the middle back of car. Never noticed it in NY just heard it the past few days in Florida.

Jurst curious. How long was the car off when it did that?

I know the air suspension is my father's town car will decompress when its been off for about half hour.

My TL has been doing the same thing. Sometimes it goes on for like an hour after I shut the car off.

It's gotta be a fan.?

I know what you mean. I bought my car back in September and asked the very same question. Never got a good answer back, though.

Maybe I'll ask my dealer one of these days...

No problem

I had the same thing happen to my car and when I was at the dealership last time I asked them what it was about. They said it's completely normal and it's part of the fuel ventilation system or something along those lines. Anyway, it's completely normal for the car to keep the fan on/run pumps after the car is off apparently...

I've seen this as well in other cars and, i believe, some airplanes. Same type of thing as when the engine RPM stays elevated for a short period to warm up the catalytic converter. It used to take much longer when they first appeared but now much less time. It's a matter of what I call "getting things to NORMAL".

Yeah this is a old cars its a 98 but I only had it for three years myself and this is the first time ever that ive have heard it in those years. It's kind of weird you say it's normal and it doesn't make sense because it would have done it before during the time I've had it thanks Dave
please advise
