burnout problem?

I drive a 2002 TL Type-S, 223,xxx km
alright, so when the car is still and i floor the gas pedal (don't get the wrong idea, i don't do this very often or anything), the front wheels do a major burnout and the rpm gauge goes all the way up to 5-6, instead of just accelerating quickly as supposed to be (i'm assuming).

My friend told me that all acuras (or at least this model) do this since the engine is very powerful or something like that, but that can't be true can it?

Thank you

p.s. yes, i am a complete car noob.

Your friend is right, you have a lot of power, especially with your car being a type s (compared to the average car on the road). However, doing this is bad for the transmission.

try not flooring it from a standstill. (quickly) ease into full throttle.

check your motor mounts, they are probably shot and causing extra wheel hop.

Check your tires, no seriously. (No pun intended.) If you tires have worn down they might not grip the road as well and cause traction issues in regards to forward motion.

if its actually spinning the wheels- the traction control is off or broken
that should apply brake to the faster wheel-- like ABS does
when its active a light on the dash for TCS should flash

if light ON all the time-the system is turned OFF
push the switch to left of steering wheel to turn system on
Its default at engine start is ON, so its broken or you are doing things to it

any recent work to the brakes or suspension?

other possible is you are destroying the trans and its slipping, causing rpm jump
No one in their right mind drives a TL or most cars like you describe
Read!!!! go to track day drivers school etc and figure out the car
before you end up on a tree

it's not the tires, i have recently purchased brand new winter tires on.
and before that when I had summer tires the same problem existed.
i don't race or anything, i just want to know whether this is natural or if it means that something is wrong/needs fixing.

i bought the car from some shady dealer and i don't know much about it (trans history, etc..) not very smart on my part. if there is any way i can check if the trans is original/working properly by myself, please let me know.

thank you, your help is greatly appreciated.

check tranny fluid, pull the dip stick out, it should be red in color. if its brown and smells like burnt sugar your tranny is not in good shape.

the acura replacement trans have blue paint on the bolt heads- look at the trans from above
if post 2005 replacement- the external oil jet kit in the filler hole is moved inside the trans

its NOT normal for the wheels to spin or the rpm to jump on the TL
it should be smooth movement forward and gentle shifts

you can test drive the trans for clutch weakness, but based on your car knowledge it would be better letting aamco or similar place run a diagnostic and test drive

the other thing you can do is go to a parts store and get a free code reading- if any codes are found report them back here
