Bugs Uuughhghgh!!!!
Bugs Uuughhghgh!!!!
Help guys! I should have purchased a bra from Acura when I bought the car but I didn't and now I have disgusting bugs on my mirrors, bumper, headlights and foglights. I've scrubbed and scrubbed and their not coming out. I'm going to the dealer at lunch to pick up the bra but before I put it on I would like to get the bugs off. Or is it too late? Any suggestions on what I could buy to get them off? Suggestions would be great. Thanks!
You could buy some bug & tar remover from a local auto parts place. Note that it will strip the wax and you should rewax the front of your car if you do soem serious scrubbing...You should also only do it when the car is cool and not in direct sunlight...
Another option (believe it or not) is spraying Pam on the areas and also rubbing them in the shade when the paint is cool...Good luck...

Type S Lady- I have a solutution for this.....and it's right up your alley.
Get a rather dense sponge about the size someone would use on dishes. Put the sponge in a onld panty-hose footy and wet the sponge down (or use bug and tar remover or BBQ grill lighter fluid) and with soap go ahaed and scrub away. The nylon isn't hard enough to scratch the paint. And DEFINITLEY do this when the paint is cool like in the shade for a long time or in the garage.
I did this to my mom's New Yorker a few years ago and it looked better than when she bought it.

Several suggestions...Invisible bra - haven't had many problems removing the bugs from it.
A great sponge for removing stubborn bugs is found here.

You can use the sponge with just soap water and it won't be so harsh on your wax/sealant/paint.
Vinegar is great on the tip of a rag at removing stubborn bugs and sap.

Use WD-40. It does wonders. Trust me. Just make sure you don't leave it on the paint for too long.
Spray, wait like 10 seconds until it soaks in, and wipe. Very simple. To be on the safe side, rinse the area with water, or just wash the whole car while you're at it.
I don't like bras on my cars. But the invinsible bra, which is basically a plastic sheet, sounds tempting.

Tom Blasing/R10apple! It worked, it worked. Thanks! My hood, mirrors and bumper are bling, blinging! I got the bra which I hate, but I guess it serves its purpose. Thanks again, I love this forum!
Good deal S-Lady...BTW, nice gloss-over of vperk and Jpolo, though they were pretty funny...Some of us are always gonna be smarta$$e$, so beware...
I'm really thinking about the 3M invisible bra. My stepmother had it done to her Lexus and it is really pretty neat. You can only tell as she ran it only half way up the hood and you can see the line of the edge of the film...The trick with it is a good install. A good one will run right up to the edges of the lights, grill, etc without gaps. But she paid just short of $750 for the film and install for the front bumper, the hood edge, and the lower front fender, doors and rear panels...Ouch...He car is that champagne color so it isn't obtrusive from a distance at all. There is also an article in Sport Compact Car with a Subie that had this done as well and it was blue and I couldn't tell...
I gotta get the rock chips painted first before I think about it further...Gotta love those highways!

Actually, I already have a clear bra installed on my '02 WDP TL-S and love it. And it really *is* pretty darn invisible in pictures, so I was only half kidding around. It is a costly item to have done but it's well worth the bucks. Had mine installed in Northern Cali almost two years ago, and for $800.00 ($400 parts/$400 labor) I got:
- Approx. 1/3 of hood covered
- Full front bumper and front-lip spoiler covered
- Thin strips covering each door edge
- Backs of both side mirrors covered
- Strips under each door handle (no fingernail scratches)
- Strip under the gas cap (protects during fuel fill-up)
- Strip across rear bumper (protects during trunk loading & unloading)
- Heavy-duty (thicker) coverage of headlights and foglights.
Cleanup is a snap since you take care of the clear bra areas just like the rest of the car (wash, wax, etc.). And bugs are much, much easier to get off since you can rub these areas more than you'd rub the painted areas. And the best part is that you don't even see it until someone points it out to you!
So, there's my more serious recommendation.

V.

Vperk, you shouldn't mind! I woulda said something about tassles, bras and the like, but you guys beat me to it!
It's funny how we all have our own little quirks...You can tell some people are always straight laced, others are alway wanting to jump on people, others are always very laid back and some are always being a smarta$$...I'm a combo of them all...Plus I try to be gentle with fairly new people to not scare them off so fast!

Well guys I'm afraid it would take a lot more than that to scare this female off the site! When I went to the dealer I asked the parts man for a bra and he tried very hard to maintain his composure. But he turned beet red, so from here on out it's a nose mask. You guys are freaks!!!! But hey, it's all good.

Yep. But it was a job, and it was hot as heck! I'm glad I got the nose mask, I wish they made them for the side view mirrors aswell. The Mitsubishi 3000GT is the only car I've seen with mask for the side view mirriors. Looks kind of neat and definitley helps from the bug guts.
anyone have a pic of what this ivnisible bra looks like?
