bucking when letting off throttle

as title suggests, this happens specially at low speeds (40 km/h) i guess that's 25mph? anyway if im maintaining that speed and let off throttle the RPM dips really low to around 800rpm and then there is the hard bucking. this doesnt always happen, its usually silky smooth. im guessing this is the torque convertor? is this serious. shifts are all smooth with DW1.

Perhaps TPS?
There is no Check Engine?
Usually if the TQ is bad it must trip a MIL Code.

This used to happen to me all the time, exactly how you described it. It was solved by new motor mounts and Ingalls Stiffy ETD.

start with the basics- the motor mounts- as suggested above- are a good first thing to ck
the front and rear mounts being vac boosted- failure causes running probs as well !

your egr system is clean?

I wonder if yours were broken since 100kms/60kmiles?
thats about the average,,failure often found when trans went out,, under warranty

+1 on the mounts, it was especially bad when going uphill changed ALL mounts never had bucking again.

If you dont have a CEL from trans or motor issues, most likely Motor mounts are typically the cause of this. The majority of people dont even know they are driving on them when they are busted.

I can confirm that!!

my 01 had a broken front motor mount for unknown time, 5-10kmiles is my guesstimate until it went to the dealer for trans replacement (back in warranty days)

Often thats the first time anyone `who knew`- bothered to look for traces of oil from the front and rear mounts
Us, or an oil change place--why would we know to look for that?
Luckily the labor for front mount is a 15 minutes when the trans is already removed,
instead of normal 2+ hours labor charge for it

one ziner had bad front mount as diagnosis for mystery vac leak and engine miss
They refused -for nearly a year- to believe that, poured money, hours, and months of frustration into looking at everything else,,finally decided maybe dealer was right

Soon as new mount went in, vac leak went away= car runs right again
Doh!
