Brake Light On

I Noticed A Problem On My 2001 Tl A Brake Light Comes On When I Press The Brake Pedal While The Car Warms Up And It Stays On Till The Car Is Warm. Once The Car Is Warm The Light Goes Away. And This Happens Only When Its Really Cold Outside Or The Car Is Been Sitting Too Long And Temperatures Were Low Outside The Brake Light Bulbs Are Okay Brake Pads Are Kay The Fluid Level Is Okay.

Do you actually depress the brake pedal and it just sticks until the car warms and then releases? Of you notice that the brake light goes on w/o having touched the pedal?

You might have some moisture in the system somewhere that is getting frozen. This could be in the fluid reservoir or on the sensor for the warning light. If moisture is there, it can really damage your brake system, or much worse, your life or car or someone elses. I just paid like $50 bucks the last time my TL was in for service to have the brake fluid flushed and all the lines bled. If you can, do this. It will probably take your problem away, and may even give you better braking. Plus, it's probably time to do that anyway on an '01. I have low mileage for my '01 (43k) and the fluid was way dirty and needed changing. Good luck.

I agree. Bleeding the system will cure this problem. Make sure your master cylinder reservoir is at the full mark.

When it is very cold the brake fluid can congeal and it needs time to warm up and get flowing.

I had the same problem back in September. There is a safety recall on the brake fluid float and screen. The dealer will take care of it at no cost.

I too have the same issue...wouldnt call it a problem though. It will happen really when it gets 40 degrees F or below. It comes on pretty much when you push the brake in just a bit, and will go off soon after you let it up. and it seems once it gets warm (the fluid I guess) it doesnt happen.

I do not know about Canada. On my invoice it states, "installed updated brake fluid float and screen". Part numbers 46666-s04-j02 and 46662-s84-999. This all was covered by warranty. Hope this helps.
