Brake Hose Question

Hey all,

Redoing front brakes this weekend (calipers, pads, rotors). I want to replace the rubber brake lines as well. Are there any special tools or extra parts needed to replace them? Ordering online so I want to make sure I'm all set before I start the job.

Thanks
Itch

get Stainless Steel Braided lines. They are better than rubber ones. no special tools needed

there is a place on the bay store- sells Suzuka brand lines for 65 or best offer- try $45 usd. plus shipping- I believe he is in canada too.
Thats whats on my car and a few other members
You will need 2 quarts of brake fluid- synthetic recommended, DOT3 or DOT4 spec fluid only, not dot5

A major upgrade in braking power for the same price as TL calipers- is 1995 Acura Legend LS Coupe dual piston calipers.
Kragen.com had them as Raybestos part number 10627 and 10628 $72.99 each plus 30$ refundable core charge when you bring back the old calipers
Check other places but make sure its dual piston - the 95 LS Coupe has the right ones for sure.

Synthetic brake caliper grease is also better than regular brake grease, last longer, less prone to washing away etc.

I'll check on ebay for the brake lines. I had raybestos rubber picked out at $21.00.
Brembo rotors (not slotted or dilled), Akebono Ceramics and Cardone calipers at $50 + $50 core each so roughly the same price as the dual pistons you're talking about. I'll Kragen's for sure though. I really don't do any performance driving with the vehicle, so hopefully I'm good with the above choices.
Oh, also replacing front shocks with KYB GR-2's

Thanks 01tl4tl!

Found the same part on RockAuto.com for $53.79 + $30 core.
Are you absolutely positive they will fit the 99TL? I'd hate to have to send them back.

Thanks again

Yes they fit. You just have to put the right side on the left and left on the right

so I guess, I'm now shopping for '95 Legend Coupe brake pads as well? Or are they the same as the TL's?

Use TL Pads TL Rotors TL caliper bracket- use only the Legend CALIPER itself
the mounting brackets are different between the cars (though visual match).
And you run then left on right side to make the bleeder nipple go on top

If you are staying with basic brakes- stay basic all the way and get the regular rubber lines and TL calipers. If you are happy now- you will remain happy

There are SEVERAL different calipers for the various legend models- some of which are single piston just like stock TL, thats not an upgrade. You have to be really careful buying them blind- local kragen could not tell me which were the correct ones- only by digging thru the internet and ordering myself- was I able to get what I have.
The lower priced units may be single piston- recheck the cardone parts and see if there is a real pic- kragens online pic was generic rear caliper! on front caliper listing!!
You do realize that CORE charge is paid back to you on return of old calipers?

I can only say for certain what fits on my car- that I currently have on my car to back up my statements.
It is said that all gen2 99-03 TL have the same front brakes. Research into Gen3 would be wise since they look the same as gen2 and really need the caliper upgrade

Thanks dude...I really appreciate everyone's feedback! I think I'll keep things simple and get the TL calipers, but definitely the Suzuka brake lines (all 4 for $65 is a better deal than rubber). I realize that the cores are refundable....but to ship them from Canada back to the US might not be cost effective...will have to look into it. One way or another, still wayyyyyy cheaper than the $170 + $75 core per caliper that my local NAPA distributor quoted me!

Thanks again

Why r u changing your calipers? Is there something wrong with them? They make rebuilt kits which seem simple enough to do, maybe you might wana go with that instead of replacing them.

Here a link to give you an idea of what it comes with. Acura TL Caliper Rebuild Kit

A. Because its easier to buy one rebuilt.
B. It may not be possible to rebuild all calipers with just the "kit". Some need more work than that.
C. most want better braking and the Legend upgrade is a cheap place to start.

at 53 a caliper its not worth it to mess with a rebuild kit, i thought they'd cost alot more.

Yup....For me it's "A". With small kids at home, "car time" is at a premium and so is my patience to rebuild a caliper. Buying and swapping seems a whole lot easier, and won't break the bank doing it myself.

I just ordered my calipers off of kragen.com for like 230 total. but good thing is, that I can return the calipers to the local shop (none of them had them in stock) and get the core charge back
