Boom on I287

First tranny gone, it locked up doing 75mph on I287 in NJ. Tried to accelerate to change langes and the rpms JUMPED from 2500 to 6000 but I wasn't going anywhere!! Couple seconds later, car dropped into like 2nd gear and just locked. Besdies me eating the steering wheel and almost getting hit by the car in back of me, I'm fine... lol. Car is at the dealer awaiting new tranny install.

2003 TLS - 39,216 mi.

WTF, that sux man. My car did the same thing 4 fucking times. Thats why i got rid of it. The car is not a piece of shit, but the tranny is, and it takes the fun out of driving when you have to worry about braking the transmission. The tranny in my trans am is bulletproof, but i still drive like a bitch because of my TL.

Yeah, I hear ya. Almost considering selling this and getting something else. This is the whole reason why I bought a TL, was to have a fun car to drive that was RELIABLE, at least more than my GSX... but that's yet to be seen.

Hopefully the new transmissions are somewhat better in design then the ones that fail. Again, only time will tell.

That sucks dude. Oh man, I hope I'm not next in line. Got my TLS in October ..... I have notices a few changes, like when I first start the car and step on the gas, there is a "WHIRR" sound .... don't know what the hell that is. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I have that same sound when I first start up the car, it actually happens twice. From what I've been told, it's the ABS pump making that noise and it's perfectly normal. My tranny never made any noise at all.. the car just bucked and couldn't catch a gear (even though it was in gear). When it breaks (if it breaks) you'll know. Hopefully it wont happen in rush hour traffic like mine did....

Just got word from the dealer that the car is already done.. new tranny installed. 2 days turnaround time, not to bad IMHO!

Was your TLS in the affected VIN number range? I forget where i saw the VINs but i believe most 03's that are in the range were built before january of 2003

I bought my 03 TLS in Aug. of 2002, so yeah, it's a pre 03 production model.

I feel your grief Aegean. The tranny on my 99 Accord went out while I was on the NJ Turnpike. I only had the car for a little under 3 years. (This is one of the reasons why I bought my Maxima.)

Well, like I said, I bought a Honda because everybody brags about their "reliability". I know the car itself is a great car, but the transmissions are absolutely horrible. Hopefully this "new design" will eliminate this from ever happening again. Bridgewater Acura has been an excellent dealer to work with!! They have made every effort to make sure my car was taken care of and that I was happy. I think a 2 day turnaround for getting a new transmission is great. Something that serious at dealers can take up to 2 weeks.

it feels fine, but still have yet to drive it aggresively cuz i think the
tranny will just blow to pieces.

i hate the feeling.
