before i take it to the dealer

i have this weird noise that only occurs when doing 50mph or more. it sounds as if i got a SC whine, at the same time it also sounds like my belts are dry. i checked the belts and they seem to be looking good still. i just wanted to see what you guys think it is before i take it to the dealer for diagnosing.

Any shaking? Sounds like maybe a wheel bearing is bad.

I had my wheel bearing replaced because at high speeds (50mph +) I could literally hear my wheel spinning. High pitch sound.

turn the wheel if the pitch of the sound changes it's a bearing if it doesn't keep guessing.

if you can turn the rear wheel at speed you have a MAJOR PROBLEM!!!

Try jacking car up-use jackstands- have friend spin REAR wheel as you use mechanics stethascope and listen to bearings from backside

guess you never change lanes on the interstate then? never go around a corner at speed where you have to turn the F'n wheel to stay on the road.

jacking up the wheel is a waiste of time you completely unload the bearing and it's not going to do dick squat.

I was being sarcastic and forgot to go red ink -
the visual I got of turning the wheel (tire) at speed- the rear wheel turning out quite far- like it was a front wheel,,,and it being the rear wheel bearing you are looking to test,,,If the wheel goes in and out several inches- you may have a bearing problem

cking the rear wheel bearing can be done by lifting the car, cking for lateral movement and listening with a mechanics stethascope while the wheel is spun by a helper
If there is anything bad going on it should be audible

Yes you could swerve on the road to load and unload bearings, but IMO starting with a safe inspection rather than discover the customer has waited a lonnnnnngggg time to report this funny noise..bearing fried burnt etc etc...
Not something I want to put under stress test when non-destructive testing exist

Must be part of gettting older-caution is exercised over bravado

noises travel well in the car- have to drive it and listen to it besides cking the parts all around
rear wheel bearing is a common failure

If its front brearings/cv then with wheel at full turn, move slowly forward listening for click click click

mechanics stethascope 5-10 dollars at harbor freight or any parts store

an alignment shop can raise the car and ck the bearings for you, or a small private import shop put it on the lift,,you can even use floorjack and jackstands

PLEASE anyone using floor jack `always use jackstand(s)`

You would be surprised how painful that crushing 3400 pound weight of a car really is when the jack hydraulics leak down pressure..or car falls of the jack---I've seen it all
The bad part is you cant always lift the weight off without killing the patient
