Talking beat a 328ic

i was cruising through clearwater last week on east bay and some little rich boy with long hair pulled up next to me at a stop light in a 328ic 5-speed. i started to take off normal then i noticed he was getting on it so i floored it. he squealed em goin into 2nd (confirmation of a stick) and then i started pulling from him. the pretty boy wouldn't even look at me. oh joyous victory. i was going to give him a nice german salute but he wouldn't pull up next to me. just got behind me at the next light. hehe.

what do you have on your TL? must be a lot cause a 328ci auto would beat us but it be pretty close and especially with a stick it would shit on us. ,maybe he just didn't know how to drive stick and your lucky he didn't cause damn... it would've been pretty bad

The TL would humiliate a 328i auto IN STRAIGHT LINE ACCELERATION even though a manual 328 is a different story altogether....in handling however, the 328i would edge out the TL...if the TL were available in a 6-speed manual, then the 328i would have to run for cover when it sees a TL coming...

Here are the acceleration figures from Motortrend for the 3.2TL(June 2000) and the 328Ci Auto (July 2000):

3.2TL 5-speed automatic:
0-30mph-----2.5 Secs
0-40mph-----3.7 Secs
0-50mph-----5.1 Secs
0-60mph-----6.7 Secs
0-70mph-----9.0 Secs
0-80mph-----11.5 Secs
Quarter mile: 15.2Secs at 93.1mph

328Ci 5-speed Automatic:
0-30mph-----2.4 Secs
0-40mph-----3.7 Secs
0-50mph-----5.2 Secs
0-60mph-----7.1 Secs
0-70mph-----9.2 Secs
0-80mph-----11.8 Secs
Quarter mile: 15.3Secs at 89.6mph

The BMW 328 Auto holds the edge only in 0-30 after which the TL catches up and thrashes it soundly all the way from 0-40, 0-50, 0-60, 0-70, 0-80 and also the quarter mile. So let us not make assertions to the contrary without any substantiation...

Also note that the acceleration statistics for the BMW 328 that we commonly see are from the manual version even though a vast majority of 3-series BMWs sold in the US (65%) are automatics....my 2c

Hunter u gotta live real world bro,for one a stick on a 328 is a tenth faster in the quarter over a step(driven by a professional driver mind u).Where in the world either of these cars would beat the hell outta the other i'd like to know since both cars reside in my driveway thats a ridiculous thing for anyone to say. Ron has a intake on his tl,i have intake/exhaust and dinan stage 2 programming. But at a claimed 225 horse to 193 for the BMW i'd say my mods are makin up the claimed disadvantage. I have 19' so my gear ratio is thrown off and low end my car suffers. From a dead stop both cars sit even ,th tl will pull a bit after 25-30mph by the time we hit 65-70 i'm pullin and pullin pretty hard the comp program opens the car up pretty good even with 19's, and at a jump side by side at speeds of 65 or so the 328 will pull everytime. Just a lil insite guys, but seriously make informed statements before posting these storys guys, by the way how'd u know it was a stick??

Hmm.....I don't see it as quite right , beemer has big torque , he mustn't have floored his car that hard , or you have your car modded (I/H/E). Otherwise if both cars are stock , I doubt that we can really race out a 328 at the 2nd gear. I once tested my car , and my friend's with his 323 , we floored it from a redlight , he was only a little bit behind me at the 1st and 2nd gear, but 4th gear it's bye bye bye to him... , he said he floored his car , and me floored it too , and this is a 323ci (1999 model) , both our cars are stock , so for 328 I would expect that we lose out loud at the 1st and 2nd gear... ,but I don't know....

Sometimes I think that people confuse aggressive driving with racing. If the guy was really trying to race you, I'm sure that he would've pulled next to you at the light and tried again.

Just my opinion.

i did not race a 328ci....i raced a 328ic. That is the body style before the new one in convertible form. It is a little heavier than the coupe.

I have a neighbor that has a '00 323 sedan with remus exhaust and dinan carbon fiber intake and a chip w/ the 5-speed and i barely pull from him. By 80-90 or so I am maybe half a car length ahead. And it is not the first time that I have beaten a 328 conv. because another one of my good friends had one and it really wasn't that fast. his was a '97. And i know it was a stick because of the slight lag when shifting and the squealing of tires when he hit 2nd gear.

The did race with a E36 or E46?

E36 is the old 3-series... I am sure that you can take out an old 328ci even he got the stick....

With the E46... I think will really have a hard time to beat him... but I think you can still hang with him.

Thumbs up

you can't really rely on those factory statistics anymore. many self-experiences that what's suppose to be an easy win from statistics came out to be a lose. it all depends on the driver. no matter how good you are with driving a 5-speed sportshift, there will always be someone who knows how to do it better than you do

I did the same the other day, it wasn't a stand still race but it was on the parkway with a 5 series will all shaves emblems (which means its a 528 ) It was cutting people off and such and i decided to mess with it, going about 80-90 i was slowly pulling on him/her (tinted windows) and going up to about 120-125 I passed it like it was nothing, Bimmer struggled to keep up but after hitting that high of speed i decided i made my point slowed down and got off my exit. but a 528 and 328 are two different stories. 528 and just a heavy hog with no HP or torque to pull that thing
