Bad Idea to get a TL?

Whats up guys, im looking at getting a used 2002 or 2003 TL-S, but with all these tranny problems Im hearing is it a big risk getting one. Im a college student and I do work 20 hours a week on average and pull in around 400-500 a month. Id trade in or sell my Grand Cherokee after winter to get one. Is this tranny problem being fixed, or are the new ones still crap?

no definately not worth keeping you from getting one; i just bought an 02 NBP TLS w/ 34K and I have no regrets, the oil jet kit was installed and as long as the tranny just doesn't crap out i don't forsee any problems

yeah if you buy a certified car your tranny is under warrenty till 100k miles. You will have less problems with this Honda/Acura than u will with your chrysler Jeep

i think all the dealers will cover your car's tranny up to 100K. If they install a new transmission, its covered for every 36K even if you go over 100K.

Im lucky, I dont have to pay for insurance throughout college and gas is split between my and my parents per week since I commute to college. I have no driving infractions or accidents *knock on wood* so they dont mind paying for insurance. I appriciate all my parents do for me, but I want to pay for my own car that I can be confident in about reliability. My Jeep's extended warranty is up in May and with all the components underneath the car, something is likely to give up.

Yes, for 100k miles or seven years, certified or not. Also, Acura did a recall of all the tls possibly affected and did a clutch pack replacement on any that were suspect. Make sure any tl you buy was taken to the dealer for this and has paperwork to prove it. I drove my 2000 tl for four years and two months with no problems at all.

I would definitely recommend getting one! I gave my brother my 97 CL and got a '03 TL-S this past August with 17k miles, and I am lovin it . Let us know what you decide.

The TL-S is an awesome car. I have an 04 TL too and I still love driving my TL-S. Your definitely gonna loved the TL-S after driving a grand cherokee (which in my opinion drive like crap). Good luck.

seriously i won't buy a car like TL if you are short on money like that

get a cheaper car and start saving up some money

you will be surprised you will save up a lot by just downgrading to a small car like a civic~

Id sell my grand cherokee and save some money up for a large downpayment. Id shoot for $120 a month car payments. After January I will start having to pay for my own gas. The jeep is just a hog when it comes to gas. I cant go more than 230 miles on a 20 gallon tank back and forth from school, so I end up filling up every 5-7 days. It will burn a hole in my pocket.

do it man, not like Jeep's have any sort of good reliability anyway. and with the tranny, like everyone has said you are good to go no matter for 100k miles. I love the TL and I would love a Type S even more!

Ill probably get one in spring, no sense on getting one right before the winter and risking damage. My mom's business partner can get me one at wholesale!! So im excited about that.

Dump the cherokee and get the TL-S, you'll like it much better. I bought my '02 with 20K miles from the bmw dealer and I was able to call the acura dealer with the VIN...they told me what recalls were issued on my specific car and which ones were still open, so don't sweat the paperwork too much.

Good luck and good for you for paying for it yourself.
