Avoiding this TL Brake issue

I had my rotors machined a few days ago. So far the brakes feel fantastic...but I know there's bound to be more issues coming up since these rotors warp quickly.

When this does happen, what do you ppl suggest I should replace my rotors and pads with?

does anyone have any feedback on a different brand of Rotors and Pads that don't warp quickly, and give far better braking then the Rotors and pads the TL-S stock comes with?

And can you also give an approx. dollar amount on replacing this.

Thanks

btw I have an "03 TL-S A Spec

hey 354 have you had your stock brake pads replaced w/the upgrated acura pads which produce less heat or just a resurface???????

with the new pads you should be fine but if not then the only real upgrade worth your time and money is to go with a bigger brake kit (larger dia. rotors and new calipers)
i went through 3 years of cronic rotor warping with my last honda and tryed the slotted/crossdrilled rotors. they warped just as fast and you cant resurface them.

no actually I haven't had my brake pads replaced. I just had them re-surface the rotors. The next time that the brakes are warped though, I will have Acura replace the rotors and pads.

Hopefully they don't screw something up by doing that.

thats right 354 sounds like your on the right track. your dealer just fixed the symptom not the cause. They WILL warp again.
the TSB states very plainly to replace pads and resurface rotor.

I believe over torquing and/or torquing lugs out of sequence can cause rotor warping. Heard this from Good Year dealer. May be worth looking into. I get real fussy when I see an impact wrench near my car.:wow:

My service manager had the brake pads replaced as well as the rotors resurfaced for free. I thought he was cool until told me how he was doing me a favor as the warranty ran out at 15K miles. Based on the TSB, isn't he required to replace the brake pads and resurface the rotors even after the warranty ran out?

the TSB will cover a customer who reports a "shutter at high speed braking" up untill 5yr/50k at least. The service manager will use his/her discression on what qualifies.
the Tundras are having the same issue but Toyata is replacing all the front braking ass. w/ bigger heavier stuff. i bring this up because i made my buddy, who had recently moved to vegas, aware of this, but the vegas dealer wouldnt do it do to his 35"tires. i called a so. cal dealer and they said no problem bring it in, so he did.( he also got a new tranny at 30k miles with 6" lift(3+3) and those 35"s)

Steve is on the right track. The dealers/mechanics should, but rarely ever use a torque wrench when putting your tires back on the car. They may say that their guns have a torque setting, but it's not that precise. Also, they should put on the lugs so they are just shy of snug, and then torque them down w/a wrench so that the lug nuts have an even torque. I bought my own torque wrench and then loosen and torque the tires myself on all my vehicles. It has saved a lot of warped rotors.

I would replace the original rotors w/cross drilled rotors and brembo brake pads. There's a place called best buy automotive in Canada that sells cross drilled rotors and brake pads at a reasonable price. Another way to avoid the warping problem (after putting on quality equipment), is to keep your foot off the brake at a stop light/sign, etc, after heavy braking. That's a pain in the a$$, but it works. It's a way of keeping the hot brake pads off the rotors, letting them cool down more quickly.

Cross drilled rotors are less prone to warping b/c the slots in them dissipate the heat more quickly, heat being the enemy. I had this same problem w/my wife's Civic, although, they lasted until 25k before I had to replace them. Mechanic said it would happen again and again, so I did the above and the rotors lasted about 50k miles before warping.
