the unit can play radio/ sat radio/ mp3/ cd/ipod while in navi mode. obviously you would need the sat radio add ons to listen to those, and also to use an ipod u would need extra stuff. everything you need will come with it except for a double din dash kit. finding all the wires and can be a pain. let me know if you questions about the install, i have installed several 2din units of both pioneer and alpine on the tl. also let me know if you need a dash kit, i have partially started sitting at my house.

i think if you need to use the navigation, you first have to set the destination with the dvd disc in the unit. then take out the dvd and insert the cd you want to listen to. the unit will memorize the location you want to go but if you need to change it, you will have to take out the cd and reload the dvd disc.

that is a good unit. the pioneer Z series is a little more powerful. If you looking for a stream lined unit the pioneers are great. lots of features and very friendly to use. not if you dont mind all differnt messy components and really are a stickler for better out of the box sound, then the alpine units are good. the maps are also slightly better on the alpine. Pioneer makes the best all around unit if you ask me. if something like differnt map database and better audio are more of a concern, get the alpine. if your planning on stock speakers, then def get the pioneer.
also fyi pioneers not bought from an authorized place dont carry the waranty. i think alpine is the same. you have to decide if a cheap price is worth the unit as is. i took the risk since i am handy with this stuff.

if money is not an issue, then got with the higher end pioneer or alpine. but if it is, may the Eclipse AVN5500 would be an option. this unit have to drives built into it. look it up on crutchfield.com, good info and reviews. only 100 bucks more than the d3

made a typo, meant to say this unit MAYBE an option. also, this unit has TWO drives built into it. 1 cd and 1 dvd
