Post Armrest problem is driving me nuts

My arm rest does not latch very well, so it flies up when I hit a bump. Now it's getting to where it just won't latch at all, even when I bend the little plastic latch back. My '00 TL never had this problem - it latched very solidly.

I have seen several other people post that they have this problem. Has anyone had any success getting it fixed? I am going to call my dealer today and make an appointment, I just want to know what my odds are of getting this resolved. I hope there isn't a design flaw or something.

I havent had this problem, but read about it in earlier posts. The dealer can take care of it.

I have a similar problem, although not as severe. It is very easy to pop open. There is something wrong with the latch (the hook doesn't catch enough to hold the door shut)

I plan on asking the dealer.

I made an appt. with the dealer today. He said it was a simple adjustment to get the armrest to latch. He said that adjustment and the window recall will take an hour total to fix. Taking it in next week.

I had the same problem.. The plastic latch isn't deep enought to catch the hole.. I took it to the dealer, and he replaced the whole lid for me free of charge.. took about 30 minutes..

Thanks for the info on your replacement experience. I asked the dealer if he had to order any parts, and he said it was just a simple adjustment. Hopefully, if they end up having to replace the whole lid, they will have the parts in stock. I would hate to have to take it back again. If that happens, I would probably just put up with it for another month until it's time for my first oil change, since it's kind of a hassle having to drop it off.

The cause for mine was the screws holding the armrest on were loose. I just tightened em and it fit perfect.

Abso-friggin'-lutely! I had the exact same problem with my TL-S and I did not have it with my '99 3.2TL. SUcker would NOT stay down! Went to the dealer and they ordered a replacement latch and tried that; no luck. They then ordered a new armrest cover/top for the console and that was installed yesterday and for now seems to have totally cured the problem. Seems some of the tops are just a hair to long, or mount to long, and the latch lines up with the hole and not the lip/clasp. My dealership was very understanding and just went thru the list of possible corrective measures; easiest to hardest. The cover seems OK now and the last resort I suppose would have been to replace the entire center console which I would not have relished

Tell 'em to replace the armrest top/cover and hopefully that'll solve your problem

I had the same problem. The dealer replaced the lower latch and I haven't had any problems since. Good luck

That definitely is strange. I dont have that problem. I'm sure the dealer will take care of it without a problem.

They replaced my latch and it didn't help at all. That's when they replaced the entire lid/cover and it now seems to align properly and stays closed. It might be a two edge problem, either the latch or the lid/cover.
