the vtec engagement is best left where it is. Moving it wont help gas mileage. Only your right foot can help in the mileage dept

Well if VTEC uses more gas then lifting the VTEC engagement may save gas but then again you shouldnt be hitting vtec while daily driving anyway if your trying to save gas

ya you cant really say you want to save gas if you are still hitting vtec that often. our cars accelerate plenty fast without hitting vtec

Well, that may be true, but if im going to drive as fast as i do (that means hitting 3500rpms everytime i accel) i mine as well move up vtec to where its no kicking on when i hit 3500rpms and save some gas if possible.

If your vtec is kicking in at 3500, you got other issues you need to worry about. It shouldn't hit vtec til 5000 rpm.

He has a 99. It kicks in alot sooner on the 99. Some have tried moving it with out good results. Honda put alot of engine manigment tuning into it to get every thing optimized to run as good as it is where its at. Id say leave it, but if you really want to we arent going to stop you. (you may see a decrease in mileage also)

dont buy it...if you want to save money on gas, why not just not drive as fast? Shouldn't that solve the problem?

So you really think the ECU adds so much fuel that your gas mileage suffers that much? I think you are overseeing the real issue and if you are burning too much gas you need to change your driving habits. Regardless if you change the vtec crosser or not, wouldn't the car still burn a little more gas the higher rpm you are at? I mean geez, what are you going to do..put the vtec crossover at 6000?

No maybe like 5k, but wouldnt you think it burns more gas with vtec on rather then off.

yes but think about what you are saying...

How much gas are you going to save from doing this? It seems like it will just be a piece of mind thing more then actually saving something.

ok.......I'm guessing your car is mostly stock or has bolt ons, correct?

I have a turbo tl ...when I drove it normal( probably 98% of the time) ..my gas mileage was about the same as it was stock. I do have bigger injectors and the car was tuned pretty well.

What I'm trying to say, whether you add the vtec controller and change the vtec crossover point ...the higher the rpm goes the more gas you will be burn regardless. If vtec made the car burn sooooo much extra gas, why don't honda just remove it from all their cars so everyone can get 90mpg, fuck them hybrids. Just remove vtec and the car will get better gas mileage.

not to mention the money you save on gas is going to be so minimal (if any) that it will take a while for u to make up the money you put in to get the vafc in the first place.
