Angry Anyone had this Problem???

I have a problem, please help! I was out today and after getting back in the car starting it, the car was iddling really funny, the RPM gauge was jumping around like crazy. My engine even shut off me, and when I started it again, the car turns on but the same thing with the RPM gauge, jumping around from 1k-1.5k and it wanted to die on my again. I tried to give the engine a little rev to see if the fuel is line is clogged but it was alright.

The strange thing is that when I put in gear, it doesn't have this problem. This only happens when I have in park, and starting it. As for driving around, stopping and go traffice, it doesn't have this problem.

I also tried putting in gear and then put it back into park, there was no problem. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. I have a 00 TL-P. The only thing I have in it is a K&N. Thanks guys.

so does the engine actually rev to those rpm's or does the gauge just play around like that? if its the gauge, then its one, if not both, of two things:

Either there is a bad ground somewhere - most likely, in fact extremely likely,
or, the main relay is gone, easy replacement, i think its like $50, but i would strongly suggest taking it in to a mechanic, they have tools that can pinpoint a bad ground. Hope this works out for you.

It could be a bad IAC valve. Anyways, you should really take it to the dealer and have it looked at.

My '00 TL-P did the exact same thing this past weekend. I started it and it was idling real crazy, like the timing was off or something. I restarted the car like 4 times and it continued, so I finally decided to take it around the block. By the time I hit the main road, it stopped and everything returned to normal. I haven't had the problem since.

Was your emitting some thick gray smoke from your exhaust? Mine was.

Anyway, I am going to take it to the dealership soon. Its time for my 60k service anyway.

Good luck.

Have the dealer change the IAC valve. My 03 was doing the same thing and once that was changed, no more problem.
