Amsoil

Hey guys,

I went out today to get oil to do an oil change on my 2000TL and i was specifically looking for AMSOIL 0w30 but was unable to find it at local automotive parts stores...is it available to purchase though stores or only online purchase directly from AMSOIL

Thanks in advance for your help

I've never seen it at a store before, even at the racing supply store I get Royal Purple from.

Do a search on www.Froogle.com and see what comes up.

1- I have nothing against Amsoil - They have many great products....

If you cant fin want you want.. You should have no problem getting Mobil 1 (5w20 / 5w30) or Red Line and make you life easy.

use the 5w30. it will offer better protection! honda used 0w30 to help meet cafe standards, and thats all.

get Mobil 1 5w-30. They're all over the place. Costco and Walmart are your best choice in term of price.

not that I am doubting you, but just curious as to why 5w30 should be used, when the manual reccommends 5w20

for 04 TL it recommends the 5w20.

99-03 TL: 5w30/10w30 i use 5w30 synthetic, sometimes alternate with 10w30synthetic, depending on the season.

5w-20 was used just to bump up Honda's CAFE mpg stats a fraction of a point. Not a noticeable increase for the consumer, but spread out over their entire lineup.........

The Type-S and TL-P engines were unchanged from 2001 up to 2002. However the 2001 TL/CL-P, and CL-S recommended 5w-30, and the 2002 CL/TL-P and CL-S/TL-S recommended 5w-20. I just felt better protected running the 5w-30.

Thanks for all your input...

however i placed an order for 12 (1qt bottles) of AMSoil 0w30 about two days ago and i am awaiting for them to arrive. Hopefully no later than tomorrow that way i can get to change my oil over the weekend...

i will do a search as far as all the materials that i need to do this Oil change but any of the members don't mind posting any threads or directing to threads to confirm my search of the materials list and parts...

Thanks in advance

the only thing you need is oil and a filter. you are also going to have a uneven amout of oil left over also. you ordered 12 bottles and our cars take 5 qts.
as stated before, if you want a better time finding oil for your car next time go with 5w30. it offers better protection and is able to be found alot easier. you WILL NOT hurt your engine buy using it. like said before, it was switched to from 5w30 to help meet cafe (emissions) standards

I will only use AMSoil twice thats why i bought 12 (1qt) bottles...
then i will most likely switch over to Mobil 1...

Should i worry about replacing the gaskets (Washers) - i was going to swing over to the dealer and pick up a few for future use.

thats why i recomended staying with 5w30, its easier to find with out ordering it. that and with synthetic you dont need to change it every 3000 miles. thats a waste of money. i change mine every 8-10,000 miles now with syn. ive had it tested numerous times at that mileage and its still in great shape.

the manual states 7500 with standard oil under normal driving. i am considered severe driving. my car idles all day long with out being shut off. i run like i said 8-10k on mine with plenty TBN left. i use Mobile 1 but amsoil is just as good or better. i went as far a 15k on 1 oil change and had a tbn of 3. i had standard oil in for 3000 miles and it had a tbn of 3. thats a huge difference

Synthetic Oil Change complete....

but everything that could have gone wrong, def. went wrong...
here's some pointers for those who are going to do their own oil change for the first time...

1- do it during the daylight....i couldn't wait till tomorrow so i did it at 6pm, while it was getting dark and i hasd to rely on a couple of flash lights to finish the job...

2- Definitly use some type of protection on your garage floor to avoid and oil getting on to it, i under-estimated the how fast that oil was going to pour out spilled some on the floor (another stupid move on my part)

3- use gloves...use gloves...use gloves....did i mention to use gloves....

4- make sure you use a something with a funnelto catch the oil, i think it will make it a lot easeir, i think i will go buy a new pan with a funnel that will fit under my TL for the nxt time...

and finally
good luck...i'll probably update after a few thousand miles and share the experiance of using AMSoil for the first time..

good luck...
time to get CRUNK
